Twitch teased a big announcement this week, and it finally announced the details during its Twitch Weekly stream today: It’s unveiling a convention.
TwitchCon is an event for streamers and gamers to gather in San Francisco. It’s set for Sept. 25 and Sept. 26 at the Moscone Center. Details are light at the moment, but the video-streaming company just launched a website where you can sign up for more details. While this convention is likely going to attract new games from developers and publishers, Twitch is billing it as a chance for fans and viewers to mingle with the biggest broadcasters.
This move is evidence that Twitch wants an even bigger stakehold on the gaming community. It is already one of the largest games-related sites on the web, and a convention is way to ensure it stay relevant and important to people.
“Twitch broadcasters have the most passionate fans, so we want to create an amazing experience where they can come together in person,” Twitch chief executive Emmett Shear said. “TwitchCon will be an opportunity for the entire community — broadcasters, game developers, viewers, and us — to play and learn together.”
