Actor Kevin Costner was a close friend of Whitney Houston’s since before the two shared the spotlight in the popular film The Bodyguard. So much so, he delivered an impassioned eulogy at the late-singer’s funeral. And now, watching Houston’s daughter Bobbi Kristina Brown hospitalized in a coma after being found unconscious in a bathtub — just as her mother was nearly three years earlier — Costner says he’s hoping for a miracle.

“I hope that God opens her eyes and lets her breathe and lets her brain work, and she gets a second chance,” he told Nightline co-anchor Juju Chang in an interview last Friday.

On Tuesday, Bobbi Kristina’s father Bobby Brown’s family released a statement thanking those who participated in a candlelight vigil for Bobbi Kristina the night before and condemning the ” reporting of TMZ, The National Enquirer, The Atlanta Journal Constitution and the Daily Mail (UK),” calling them out for writing articles based on unnamed “sources.”

“We continue to request privacy in this matter. We thank everyone that supported the vigil for Bobbi Kristina. God is hearing our prayers,” said Bobby Brown.
