This is Daniel Whyte III with the Second Coming Watch Update. This is update #589. Let’s take a quick look at today’s prophecy-related headlines which point towards the second coming of the Lord Jesus Christ and the end of the world as we know it.
First, today, under the Sign category of WARS & RUMORS OF WARS — According to Reuters, U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry said on Thursday that President Barack Obama will decide soon whether to provide Kiev with lethal weapons to fight separatists in east Ukraine but added that Washington prefers a diplomatic solution. Kerry was speaking in Kiev as the German and French leaders arrived in the Ukrainian capital with a new proposal to end the conflict, which they planned to discuss in Moscow over the weekend. Kerry said, “The president is reviewing all of his options, among those options is the possibility of providing defensive systems to Ukraine.”
Second, today, under the Sign category of WARS & RUMORS OF WARS — According to Reuters, a United Nations watchdog says that ISIS militants are selling abducted Iraqi children at markets as sex slaves, and killing other youth, including by crucifixion or burying them alive. Iraqi boys under 18 years of age are increasingly being used by the militant group as suicide bombers, bomb makers, informants or human shields to protect facilities against U.S.-led air strikes. Children from the Ya-zi-di sect or Christian communities, but also Shi’ites and Sunnis, have been victims. Renate Winter of the U.N. Committee on the Rights of the Child said, “We have had reports of children, especially children who are mentally challenged, who have been used as suicide bombers, most probably without them even understanding. There was a video placed (online) that showed children at a very young age, approximately eight years of age and younger, [being] trained already to become soldiers.”
Third, today, under the Sign category of DISTRESS AMONG NATIONS — According to USA Today, The brutal killing of a Jordanian pilot captured by the Islamic State has sent shock waves through the Arab world and galvanized support for a forceful response to the militants. Mustafa Alani, director of national security for the Gulf Research Center in Geneva, said, “They have lost public support across the region.” Jordan’s King Abdullah II cut short a trip to the United States and returned home, where he was greeted by thousands of supporters. The Senate Armed Services Committee released a letter calling for expedited U.S. shipments of military hardware to help the country combat the Islamic State. Sterling Jensen, assistant professor at the United Arab Emirates’ National Defense College in Abu Dhabi, said the pilot’s gruesome death will bolster public support in the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Qatar for their participation in the U.S.-led coalition against the Islamic State.
Fourth, today, under the Sign category of DISTRESS AMONG NATIONS — According to Reuters, Russia’s Foreign Ministry spokesman said that Moscow would see any decision by the United States to give Ukraine lethal weapons as a threat to Russia’s security. He was responding to calls in Washington and Kiev for the U.S. government to arm Ukrainian government forces fighting Russian-backed separatists in east Ukraine. He said Russia was concerned by the possibility of the United States providing Kiev with weapons, including under legislation passed last year on providing military assistance for Ukraine.
Fifth, today, under the Sign category of INCREASED PERSECUTION — According to Reuters, Hundreds of Christian protesters clashed with police in Delhi as they pressed demands for government protection amid concern about rising intolerance after a series of attacks on churches. Demonstrators were pulled on to police buses as they tried to march from one of New Delhi’s largest cathedrals near parliament to the residence of Home Minister Raj-nath Singh. Political rivals have accused the ruling Hindu nationalist BJP party of exploiting religious divisions in the run-up to state elections. Five churches in the capital have reported incidents of arson, vandalism and burglary. The latest was reported on Monday when an individual stole ceremonial items.

The prophetic passage of Scripture we are looking at today is Leviticus 23:37 which reads: “These are the feasts of the Lord, which ye shall proclaim to be holy convocations, to offer an offering made by fire unto the Lord, a burnt offering, and a meat offering, a sacrifice, and drink offerings, every thing upon his day:”
Allow me to share with you some commentary on this passage from the Popular Bible Prophecy Commentary, edited by Tim LaHaye and Ed Hindson.
The Feast of Booths, in New Testament times, was characterized by tremendous expectation for the Messiah as well as the Holy Spirit. A theological connection was made between the experience of religious joy and possession of the Holy Spirit. This connection took ritual form within the holy festival’s ceremony of water drawing. Although this tradition is not found in Scripture, by the time of Jesus, the ceremony had become the highlight of Suk-kot and perhaps the most important element of the temple festivities.
The ceremony was accentuated by dancing, singing, and music. The worshippers were considered, by their very acts of worship, to be inspired by the Holy Spirit. The Spirit, according to the ancient rabbis, could only be received by those whose hearts were full of religious joy. Throughout the seven days of the festival, a procession of priests, flute players, and crowds of people brought water in a golden pitcher from the pool of Siloam, at the foot of Jerusalem and carried it to a basin at the altar in the temple. The high priest would take the pitcher, ascend a ramp to reach the top of the altar, and pour out the water, which symbolized the outpouring of the Holy Spirit on the people of Israel.
In the midst of this water pouring, trumpet blasting, palm waving, psalm chanting, and joy on the last day, Jesus entered the temple courts. Interrupting the festivities, He invited the whole assembly of Israel (Pharisees, Sadducees, the Sanhedrin, all 24 divisions of priests and Levites, and the high priest, Caiaphas himself) to come to Him and thereby drink of the living water, the Holy Spirit, which only He (and pointedly, not the Jewish leadership) could provide. It is unmistakable that Jesus was boldly declaring His messianic identity to all present. The various reactions to his proclamation clearly show that they got the message. Jesus chose this particular feast to reveal publicly that He was Messiah and boldly taught in the temple that this celebration was fulfilled in Him.
Many see the fulfillment of these two seasonal cycles in the first and second advents of the Messiah. Regarding the four-feast spring cycle, Jesus has fulfilled Passover by becoming our Passover. He fulfilled the Feast of Unleavened Bread through His sinless offering, and the Feast of Firstfruits through His resurrection. Pentecost was fulfilled through the church’s receipt of the eternal, indwelling Holy Spirit.
Regarding the three-feast fall cycle, the Feast of Trumpets is typological of Christ’s returning for His church at the rapture and the regathering of Israel at the advent of the messianic age. Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement, is typological of Christ’s atoning work on the cross and His victorious second coming, when all Israel will be saved by placing their faith in their Messiah. Finally, the Feast of Booths is typological of the Messiah’s incarnation and gift of His Spirit, and will find complete fulfillment in the establishment of His great millennial kingdom. The Festival of Ingathering points to an era when God gathers in His harvest, all those who believe, both Jews and Gentiles together.
If the Lord tarries His coming and we live, we will continue looking at the prophetic passages of the Bible in our next broadcast / podcast.
Our second coming quote for today is from Frederic Godet. He said, “The Lord’s Supper is a link between the Lord’s First Coming and His Second Coming.”
If you are not ready for the return of Jesus Christ, may I encourage you to get ready today by receiving Him as your Savior. John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” Just believe in your heart that Jesus Christ died for your sins, was buried, and rose from the dead by the power of God for you so that you can live eternally with Him. Pray and ask Him to come into your heart today, and He will. Romans 10:13 says, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
Keep looking up for your redemption draweth nigh. Let us join in the prayer of John the Revelator — “Even so, come, Lord Jesus.” God bless you.
