Rick Santorum says Christians Need to Get Ready Because ‘if You Fight for Truth and Stand for Christ’ You Will be Hated

Republican Presidential Debate Sponsored by The Washington Post and Bloomberg

Former Sen. Rick Santorum reminded his fellow Christians that “they will hate you and persecute you because you stand for Him.”

Santorum made the remark Wednesday after the Family Research Council (FRC) and EchoLight Studios, where Santorum is CEO, co-hosted a screening of the docudrama “One Generation Away”- a reference to the idea that Americans may only be one generation away from religious persecution

CNSNews: “Conservatives often get disillusioned because they feel they are fighting a losing battle. What words of encouragement would you give them to keep going or to keep fighting?”

Santorum: “I know how these stories end, and if you’re a believer you all know how it ends. And we know the good guys win, truth wins.

“And so your job is to just focus on being faithful, standing by the truth, fighting for the truth, understanding the world is broken, and that they will hate you and persecute you because you stand for Him and what He taught.

“And that’s a great blessing, not something to be avoided but something to be embraced.”

The former presidential candidate was also asked why it was so difficult to get pro-life legislation through Congress even with a Republican majority.

CNSNews: “Why do you think it is that even with Republicans in control of Congress, they have such a hard time getting basic [pro-life] measures passed, such as the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act?”

Santorum: “It’s one thing to run as someone who’s pro-life, it’s another thing to actually put the boats up, because once you start voting and once you start dealing with these issues in Congress, it’s a very hostile arena in Washington, D.C.

“And the media will come after you, and so a lot of these members, even though they’re quote pro-life, they want to avoid these issues, and one way to do it, is quietly behind the scenes kill them. And that’s what they did.”

Santorum also said that if left unchecked, the continued erosion of religious liberty in the United States will eventually lead to overt persecution of people for their religious beliefs.
