An 86-year-old man, whose family has said he had won $20,000 in a lottery game, was found dead in a vacant home on Sunday, police said.
Arthur Neal Jr. had been missing since Dec. 20, when he was last seen at his home.
Detroit police spokesman Officer Adam Madera said Wednesday that Neal’s body was found Sunday in the basement of a vacant home. He said the body had been covered.
A spokesman for the Wayne County Medical Examiner’s Office said he suffered multiple stab wounds.
Madera said police have not been able to confirm whether anyone with Neal’s name won a lottery game or cashed a ticket in his name.
He said Neal’s death is being investigated as a homicide.
