The fast growing Elevation Church has signed a $10 million deal to buy an entire shopping center along Independence Boulevard in Matthews.
The church already occupies a corner of the shopping center and it is the home office for more than 100 church staff workers. Joshua Blackson, who is the operations pastor, said the additional space will allow the church to expand.
“It really was a great opportunity for us to ultimately secure our future here in the Matthews community where we are honestly really excited to be,” he said. But what of the future for other store owners in the shopping center?
Some had already moved out when rumors first started that the church would be buying the property.
Geoffrey Goss owns Custom Home Pubs, a specialty craft brew supply company.
He says he will be moving out over the next three months.
“We had word that this was going to happen and we’ve been working with the property manager to accelerate terminating our lease,” Goss said.
