Jailed Al Jazeera Journalist Peter Greste Freed

Peter Greste, a correspondent for Al Jazeera who had been held for 400 days in Egypt, has been freed and hasleft the country, Egyptian state media reports.

Greste, an Australian, was arrested in December 2013 with two other colleagues on charges of spreading false news. Greste along with Mohamed Fahmy and Baher Mohamed were imprisoned in June.

Fahey and Mohamed are believed to still be held. Late last month, at the World Economic Forum gathering in Davos, Egyptian president Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi told Bloomberg news that he hoped the case of the three Al Jazeera journalists could be resolved quickly. “We are very keen on sorting this out and getting it finished as soon as possible,” El-Sisi said.
