Let’s take a quick look at today’s prophecy-related headlines which point towards the second coming of the Lord Jesus Christ and the end of the world as we know it.
First, today, under the Sign category of WARS & RUMORS OF WARS — According to The Washington Post, On Wednesday, residents of Israel and Lebanon feared that their countries were edging toward war after Israeli troops and the Lebanese Hezbollah militia exchanged deadly barrages across a fractious border earlier in the day. The clashes, which began with a Hezbollah attack that killed two Israeli soldiers, marked one of the most serious flare-ups of violence in the area and raised tensions in a volatile tri-border zone close to positions held by Syrian insurgents, including Islamist factions. A U.N. peacekeeper was also killed, although it was unclear how he died.
Second, today, under the Sign category of THE TURMOIL IN ISRAEL & THE MIDDLE EAST — According to Reuters, Israeli airforce jets struck Syrian army artillery positions near the Israel-occupied Golan Heights on Wednesday. The military said it was in retaliation for rockets launched in the area the previous day. Tensions have escalated in the border region in the 10 days since an Israeli air strike on territory under the control of Syrian President Bashar Assad killed an Iranian general and several Lebanese Hezbollah fighters. On Tuesday, at least two rockets from Syria hit the Golan Heights and Israel responded with artillery fire. There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the rocket fire and no casualties were reported.
Third, today, under the Sign category of EARTHQUAKES IN DIVERS PLACES — According to the San Francisco Chronicle, a magnitude 5.7 earthquake struck off the North Coast of California on Wednesday. The quake was reported at 1:08 p.m. and was centered 25 miles southwest of Ferndale. People reported feeling the shaker as far north as the Oregon border. No tsunami warning was issued, but officials warned that the likelihood of a magnitude 5 or greater aftershock in the next seven days was roughly 40 percent.
Fourth, today, under the Sign category of THE TURMOIL IN ISRAEL & THE MIDDLE EAST — According to the Associated Press, Iran said on Tuesday it has sent a warning to Israel through the United States over the recent killing of an Iranian general in an alleged Israeli airstrike. The report quoted Iran’s deputy foreign minister as saying, “We told the Americans that the leaders of the Zionist regime should await the consequences of their act.” He added, “The Zionist regime has crossed our red lines.”
Fifth, today, under the Sign category of WARS & RUMORS OF WARS — According to Yahoo News, despite a steady barrage of coalition airstrikes that have helped Kurdish fighters regain some territory in Iraq, ISIS has solidified its control in Anbar, setting up a ministate that now controls 85 percent of the province. Anbar is Iraq’s largest province, covering a huge swath of the country’s west, and was the site of some of the bloodiest battles of the Iraq War. Iraqi tribal officials visiting the U.S said the Islamist insurgency is a truly global enterprise. Foreign fighters are continuing to pour into the province — from 45 countries, including Russia, France, Great Britain and other European nations. Iraqi security forces recently captured two of the ISIS recruits — one from Egypt and another from China — and learned that they had been trained as snipers by Italians at an ISIS training camp in Syria. The humanitarian toll on the province has been disastrous as well. Much of the province’s infrastructure — including 45 bridges and 250 schools — has been destroyed. More than 750,000 people have been displaced. And the price of food has skyrocketed and is now five times what it was when the ISIS militants began their onslaught in Anbar early last year.

The prophetic passage of Scripture we are looking at today is Leviticus 23:22 which reads: “And when ye reap the harvest of your land, thou shalt not make clean riddance of the corners of thy field when thou reapest, neither shalt thou gather any gleaning of thy harvest: thou shalt leave them unto the poor, and to the stranger: I am the Lord your God.”
Allow me to share with you some commentary on this passage from the Popular Bible Prophecy Commentary, edited by Tim LaHaye and Ed Hindson.
The Spirit’s presence in the temple at Pentecost was marked by three signs similarly experienced at Sinai: violent wind, fire, and supernatural sounds. In Acts 2:1-3 Luke described the wind and the fire, and in Acts 2:4 he mentioned the supernatural sounds. The result of this outpouring of the Spirit was the apostles’ newly acquired supernatural ability to communicate “with other tongues”, or in known, intelligible spoken languages. From this point on, the apostles would be empowered as witnesses whom Christ had commissioned.
On this Pentecost, there was indeed something new under the sun—the birth of the church, the beginning of a new era. From this point on, all believers would be permanently indwelled by the Spirit, forever united with Christ and each other.
Pentecost reminds us that God has personally engraved His righteous standards on our hearts by His Spirit. He has given His Spirit to indwell us permanently, enabling immediate and direct access to the Father. He has provided the perfect Intercessor: the great High Priest, Jesus, the incarnation of the Torah. Unlike Moses or the Levitical priests, this intermediary is no mere middleman; He is God Himself in human flesh. We now have the eternal, abiding presence of Immanuel, God with us.
Finally, the two leavened loaves which were customarily presented on Pentecost prophetically prefigured the church, a church that is composed of two groups, Jews and Gentiles, both of whom are leavened, sinful, and desperately in need of the indwelling Holy Spirit.
Fruchtenbaum sees Leviticus 23:22 as referencing a prophetic interval between Israel’s spring and Fall cycles. This interval is currently being fulfilled in the present church age, which is characterized by labor in a harvest of “the poor and the stranger” (Gentiles).
If the Lord tarries His coming and we live, we will continue looking at the prophetic passages of the Bible in our next broadcast / podcast.
Our second coming quote for today is from Stephen Travis. He said, “The Christian hope is not a matter for tickling our minds, but for changing our minds and influencing society.”
If you are not ready for the return of Jesus Christ, may I encourage you to get ready today by receiving Him as your Savior. John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” Just believe in your heart that Jesus Christ died for your sins, was buried, and rose from the dead by the power of God for you so that you can live eternally with Him. Pray and ask Him to come into your heart today, and He will. Romans 10:13 says, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
Keep looking up for your redemption draweth nigh. Let us join in the prayer of John the Revelator — “Even so, come, Lord Jesus.” God bless you.
