Let’s take a quick look at today’s prophecy-related headlines which point towards the second coming of the Lord Jesus Christ and the end of the world as we know it.
First, today, under the Sign category of DISTRESS AMONG NATIONS — According to CBS, a trans-Atlantic group of prominent scientists announced that the iconic Doomsday Clock, considered a metaphor for the dangers faced by the world, was pushed ahead by two minutes over concerns about worsening climate change and the world’s failure to reduce nuclear weapons. Every year, the Science and Security Board of the Bulletin of Atomic Scientists analyzes international threats, particularly nuclear arsenals and climate change, and decides where the minute hand on the Doomsday Clock should rest. The closer it is to midnight, the closer the world is to doom. Those two issues again took center stage as the Board announced it would bump the clock two minutes ahead, to 11:57 p.m.
Second, today, under the Sign category of WARS & RUMORS OF WARS — According to the Associated Press, signs emerged on Friday pointing to a major offensive in eastern Ukraine by rebels fighting to break off from the rest of the country. A rebel leader said they will continue to fight and won’t join further peace talks — but left unclear whether they would respect this week’s agreement to pull back heavy weapons from the front line. NATO says it has indications that a major rebel offensive is coming, due to heavy weapons moving in from Russia as they have prior to previous rebel pushes. Meanwhile, the U.N. human rights agency says the overall death toll in the conflict has risen above 5,000 as fighting escalates.
Third, today, under the Sign category of WARS & RUMORS OF WARS — According to The Washington Post, the Obama administration has been forced to suspend counterterrorism operations with Yemen in the aftermath of the collapse of its government, a move that abruptly eases pressure on al-Qaeda’s most dangerous franchise. Armed drones operated by the CIA and the U.S. Joint Special Operations Command remain deployed for now over southern Yemen, where al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula is based. But U.S. officials said that the Yemeni security services that provided much of the intelligence that sustained that U.S. air campaign are now controlled by Shiite rebels who have seized control of much of the capital.
Fourth, today, under the Sign category of DISTRESS AMONG NATIONS — According to Reuters, U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry said on Friday that countries must devote more resources to fight global extremism but the battle would falter if it becomes consumed by sectarian division or Islamophobia. Speaking against a backdrop of deadly Islamist militant attacks in France, Pakistan, Nigeria and elsewhere, Kerry told leaders at the annual World Economic Forum: “These kinds of actions can never be excused. And they have to be opposed. We have to take risks; we have to invest more resources.”
Fifth, today, under the Sign category of WARS & RUMORS OF WARS — According to Defense News, American soldiers will deploy to Ukraine this spring to begin training four companies of the Ukrainian National Guard. The number of troops heading to Ukraine is still being determined. The American training effort comes as part of a US State Department initiative “to assist Ukraine in strengthening its law enforcement capabilities, conduct internal defense, and maintain rule of law.” A Pentagon official said, “We’re very open to the idea that this becomes a first step in further training for the Ukrainian military.”

The prophetic passage of Scripture we are looking at today is Leviticus 23:20-21 which reads: “And the priest shall wave them with the bread of the firstfruits for a wave offering before the Lord, with the two lambs: they shall be holy to the Lord for the priest. And ye shall proclaim on the selfsame day, that it may be an holy convocation unto you: ye shall do no servile work therein: it shall be a statute for ever in all your dwellings throughout your generations.”
Allow me to share with you some commentary on this passage from the Popular Bible Prophecy Commentary, edited by Tim LaHaye and Ed Hindson.
Whether Firstfruits was recognized in the year of Jesus’ crucifixion as occurring on Saturday, Nisan 16, or Sunday, Nisan 17, Jesus; resurrection still prophetically fulfilled the holy occasion. On this subject the teaching of Paul in 1 Corinthians 15:20-23 possesses indisputable clarity: ‘Now Christ has been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who are asleep. For since by a man came death, by a man also came the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ all will be made alive. But each in his own order: Christ the first fruits, after that those who are Christ’s at His coming.’
Firstfruits is also used typologically within the New Testament in reference to the believer’s possession of the Holy Spirit and to Jewish believers in Jesus, both contemporary and future.
The fourth of Israel’s holy feasts, and the last holy day of the spring cycle, is the Feast of Weeks. This was one of the “big three” pilgrimage festivals when, as during Passover and Tabernacles, every Jewish male was commanded to worship at the tabernacle or temple. In Deuteronomy 16:9-10, the holiday is designated as the Festival of Weeks. This name was so designated because seven weeks, or 50 days, are counted down from the determinative day falling within the week of Passover and the Feast of Unleavened Bread until the arrival of this holiday. The name Pentecost (Greek for “fifty”) was used interchangeably with the Hebrew name for the holiday. The holiday is referenced as Pentecost three times within the New Testament.
The Feast of Weeks is also called “the Feast of Harvest.” This day marks the end of the barley harvest, which began at Passover, and the initial ripening of the wheat harvest. Yet another designation is “the Day of the Firstfruits.” Again, this is the firstfruits of the wheat harvest of summer, not the Passover Feast of Unleavened Bread as previously discussed. Similar to its companion holiday, the date of the Feast of Weeks may only be determined in relation to the date of Firstfruits.
If the Lord tarries His coming and we live, we will continue looking at the prophetic passages of the Bible in our next broadcast / podcast.
Our second coming quote for today is from John Trapp. He said, “This is pinned as a badge to the sleeve of every true believer—that he looks for and longs for Christ’s coming to judgement.”
If you are not ready for the return of Jesus Christ, may I encourage you to get ready today by receiving Him as your Savior. John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” Just believe in your heart that Jesus Christ died for your sins, was buried, and rose from the dead by the power of God for you so that you can live eternally with Him. Pray and ask Him to come into your heart today, and He will. Romans 10:13 says, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
Keep looking up for your redemption draweth nigh. Let us join in the prayer of John the Revelator — “Even so, come, Lord Jesus.” God bless you.
