The associate pastor of a Bradenton church was reportedly killed in his home early Sunday.
Anthony Shinholster, 57, served at Gethsemane Missionary Baptist Church, 501 Ninth Ave. W., Bradenton, according to his sister, Thenecia Shinholster.
“He was a wonderful man,” Shinholster said Sunday at her brother’s home in the 300 block of 61st Avenue East. “We are all baffled.”
The Manatee County Sheriff’s Office has a homicide investigation under way, but currently has no suspects nor were arrests announced late Sunday night.
Shinholster was discovered around 1 a.m. by a friend, who noticed the victim’s traumatic injuries and called 911, according to a sheriff’s office report.
Manatee County Emergency Medical Service personnel pronounced Shinholster dead at the scene, according to the report.
The report did not specify the cause of death. The case was referred to detectives with the Manatee County Homicide Investigative Unit, deputies said.
Shinholster, who lived just a few blocks from Pride Community Park, was well-known in the neighborhood for running Shin’s Produce fruit and
vegetable stand on Ninth Avenue East, south of 15th Street East, his sister said.
Neighbors on the block where Shinholster lived said on Sundays, Shinholster would bring them baskets of fruit and vegetables, just to be kind.
“He was funny,” a neighbor said, not wanting to give a name.
