Let’s take a quick look at today’s prophecy-related headlines which point towards the second coming of the Lord Jesus Christ and the end of the world as we know it.
First, today, under the Sign category of WARS & RUMORS OF WARS — According to The Guardian, President Francois Hollande declared on Wednesday that France would dispatch its only aircraft carrier, the nuclear-powered Charles de Gaulle, to reinforce the campaign against ISIS. Addressing the warship’s crew, Hollande prepared them for a deployment in the Middle East where France has joined the US-led air campaign against the Islamic State. He said the aircraft carrier would allow France to “conduct operations in Iraq, if necessary, with even more intensity and more efficiency. The aircraft carrier will work in close cooperation with coalition forces.”
Second, today, under the Sign category of WARS & RUMORS OF WARS — According to The Washington Free Beacon, Iranian military leaders admitted this week to building and operating missile-manufacturing plants in Syria, where it was also revealed that Tehran is helping to build a secret nuclear facility. An Iranian Revolutionary Guard commander stated that the country’s Supreme Leader ordered forces to build and operate missile plants in Syria, where Iran continues to fight on behalf of embattled leader Bashar Assad.
Third, today, under the Sign category of DISTRESS AMONG NATIONS — According to Israel National News, a new survey cited by the AFP shows that almost half of British Jewish people fear they have no long-term future in Great Britain or in Europe. The poll conducted by the Campaign Against Anti-Semitism (CAA) found that 45 percent of respondents feared that Jews may have no future in Great Britain, and 58 percent were concerned they have no long-term future in Europe. CAA chairman Gideon Falter said, “The results of our survey are a shocking wake-up call… Britain is at a tipping point. Unless anti-Semitism is met with zero tolerance, it will grow and British Jews will increasingly question their place in their own country.”
Fourth, today, under the Sign category of DISTRESS AMONG NATIONS — According to Bloomberg, with Wednesday’s claim of responsibility by al-Qaeda’s leading affiliate for the deadly attack in Paris, the group founded by Osama bin Laden has carried out its first successful assault on Western soil in nearly a decade. Al-Qaeda claiming credit crystallizes a new reality that intelligence officials in Europe and the U.S. have been fretting about since the emergence of the so-called Islamic State in Iraq and Syria: The nature of the jihadist threat facing the West today is much bigger, much more diffuse, and more complex than it has been since at least Sept. 11, 2001, if not before. That means security gaps and centrally planned, mass-casualty attacks are inevitable. The gaps do not need to be big to create an opening for an old, highly skilled, and still-determined foe such as al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula.
Fifth, today, under the Sign category of THE TURMOIL IN ISRAEL & THE MIDDLE EAST — According to Ynet News, Israeli police and the Shin Bet security agency on Monday closed three Muslim charities suspected of channeling funds to finance “terror.” They were suspected of financing “organizations which identify with Hamas” and encouraging activists to confront visitors at the flashpoint Al-Aqsa mosque compound, a site sacred to both Muslims and Jews.

The prophetic passage of Scripture we are looking at today is the entire chapter of Leviticus 16. Verses 11 of this passage reads: “And Aaron shall bring the bullock of the sin offering, which is for himself, and shall make an atonement for himself, and for his house, and shall kill the bullock of the sin offering which is for himself.”
Allow me to share with you some commentary on this passage from the Popular Bible Prophecy Commentary, edited by Tim LaHaye and Ed Hindson.
The high priest would then turn his attention to the second goat. By placing his hands on the goat’s head and making public confession on behalf of all Israel, the high priest transferred the sins, transgressions, and iniquities of the nation onto the scapegoat. The goat now served as a substitute for the Jewish people.
The scapegoat was then escorted by another priest outside of the camp and far into the wilderness, where it was to be set free. By New Testament times, however, this changed. The scapegoat was escorted outside of Jerusalem and into the Judean desert. To assuage the nations’ nagging fear of the possibility that the scapegoat, having had Israel’s sins transferred upon it, might somehow find his way back into the midst of Israel, an innovation had been added so as to remove all doubt. The goat was led to a high cliff and driven off to remove all possibility of return.
Of all Israel’s holy days, only the Passover demonstrates a close connection between Jesus and one of the feasts. The main thrust of the New Testament letter to the Hebrews is to portray Jesus as the fulfillment of the Day of Atonement. In chapters 2, 7, 9, and 10, two facets of this connection are explored.
The initial way that the Day of Atonement has been fulfilled is through Jesus serving as God’s perfect High Priest. Hebrews tells us that Jesus became “a merciful and faithful high priest…to make propitiation for the sins of the people.” In Israel’s history, high priests came and went as they died or were replaced for political purposes. Jesus, as a resurrected High Priest, will minister permanently. There is not one moment of any day when Christ is not serving as High Priest. Therefore, our salvation is secured eternally.
The author of Hebrews continues this theme, arguing that Jesus is the perfect High Priest. He had no need to first make a sacrifice for Himself before He could minister on our behalf because He Himself was a perfect, sinless sacrifice. Furthermore, unlike animal sacrifices, His sacrifice did not need to be continually offered on a daily, weekly, or annual basis, but was a perfect offering for the total and complete eradication of sin once and for all.
In addition, Jesus does not serve as High Priest within a sanctuary “made with [human] hands, a mere copy of the true one.” Jesus’ high priesthood functions within the Holy Place in heaven itself. The Holy of Holies in which He enters is the heavenly presence of God. The atoning blood that this High Priest bears is not the inferior blood of animals but His own blood, the blood of the Messiah.
If the Lord tarries His coming and we live, we will continue looking at the prophetic passages of the Bible in our next broadcast / podcast.
Our second coming quote for today is from C.H. Spurgeon. He said, “The fact that Jesus Christ is to come again is not a reason for star-gazing, but for working in the power of the Holy Ghost.”
If you are not ready for the return of Jesus Christ, may I encourage you to get ready today by receiving Him as your Savior. John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” Just believe in your heart that Jesus Christ died for your sins, was buried, and rose from the dead by the power of God for you so that you can live eternally with Him. Pray and ask Him to come into your heart today, and He will. Romans 10:13 says, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
Keep looking up for your redemption draweth nigh. Let us join in the prayer of John the Revelator — “Even so, come, Lord Jesus.” God bless you.
