While still battling the government over leaked information in the scandal over former CIA director David Petraeus, Jill Kelley has met with Pope Francis and has bought a home for children orphaned by religious genocide in Pakistan.
Tampa mother-of-three Kelley is still in court claiming the FBI and Defense Department violated her privacy when officials leaked information about her as the scandal unfolded.
But Kelley, whose uncle is a Syrian Catholic leader, joined a private audience with the pope last week along with Catholic bishops from Middle Eastern nations to discuss the genocide of Christians in the region. And she quietly bought a home in Pakistan for the three children of a Christian couple who were burned alive by a mob on Nov. 4.
Kelley told Page Six:
‘“My life has changed drastically because of everything that has happened, but I believe there is a silver lining, and if I need to use my notoriety to bring awareness to humanitarian issues in the world, I will do that.”’
Kelley said she had read in the newspaper about Shahzad Masih, 35, and his pregnant wife Siama (alias Shamah), 31, who were burned alive by a mob that threw them into a kiln furnace after severely beating them. Fifty-nine people have been indicted by a Pakistani antiterrorism court for the murders in Punjab province.
