Let’s take a quick look at today’s prophecy-related headlines which point towards the second coming of the Lord Jesus Christ and the end of the world as we know it.

First, today, under the Sign category of THE TURMOIL IN ISRAEL & THE MIDDLE EAST — According to the Associated Press, The United States will veto a proposed Palestinian resolution “to end the occupation” at the United Nations Security Council on Wednesday. Secretary of State John Kerry said that America will veto the Jordanian-backed proposal at a meeting with the top Palestinian negotiator. It was not initially clear how the US would react to the proposal by the Palestinians after a shaky few months between US and Israeli relations. However, the US ultimately decided it would oppose the resolution, a unilateral move that would force a schedule for an Israeli withdrawal from Palestinian territories.

Second, today, under the Sign category of WARS & RUMORS OF WARS — According to the New York Times, on Tuesday, the Taliban took their war on education to a ruthless new low with an assault on a crowded school that killed 145 people — 132 of them uniformed schoolchildren — in the deadliest single attack in the group’s history. During an eight-hour rampage at the Army Public School and Degree College, a team of nine Taliban gunmen stormed through the corridors and assembly hall, firing at random and throwing grenades. A Taliban spokesman said the attack had been retaliation for the continuing military operation against the group. But the image of children’s bodies on the floor of their school auditorium, some of them not yet in their teens, again demonstrated how the Pakistani Taliban’s war has often been taken out on the country’s most vulnerable citizens.

Third, today, under the Sign category of WARS & RUMORS OF WARS — According to Reuters, Germany plans to finance part of the cost of four new corvette warships for the Israeli Navy, under a deal struck with Israel in November. Following approval by German parliament’s budget committee, the contract could be finalized before the end of this year. As part of its atonement for the Holocaust, Germany is committed to Israel’s security and has often helped pay for the cost of military equipment such as submarines.

Fourth, today, under the Sign category of THE TURMOIL IN ISRAEL & THE MIDDLE EAST — According to Agence France-Presse (AFP), Israel’s internal security service said it has arrested five Palestinians for planning attacks including a suicide bombing in Tel Aviv. The suspects from the West Bank were arrested in October and November and included a woman who planned to blow herself up in Israel’s commercial capital. The announcement came after a series of deadly incidents in Jerusalem in November, where lone Palestinian attackers killed a number of Israelis.

Fifth, today, under the Sign category of WARS & RUMORS OF WARS — According to Reuters, a Chinese state-run newspaper said on Monday that about 300 Chinese people are fighting alongside the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria, a rare tally that is likely to fuel worry in China that militants pose a threat to security. China has expressed concern about the rise of the Islamic State in the Middle East, nervous about the effect it could have on its Xin-jiang region. But it has also shown no sign of wanting to join US efforts to use military force against the group.

The prophetic passage of Scripture we are looking at today is Exodus 12:3 & 5-6 which reads: “Speak ye unto all the congregation of Israel, saying, In the tenth day of this month they shall take to them every man a lamb, according to the house of their fathers, a lamb for an house… Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male of the first year: ye shall take it out from the sheep, or from the goats: And ye shall keep it up until the fourteenth day of the same month: and the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill it in the evening.”

Allow me to share with you some commentary on this passage from the Popular Bible Prophecy Commentary, edited by Tim LaHaye and Ed Hindson.

Interrupting the tenth plague narrative are instructions for the observance of the Feast of Passover, the most frequently mentioned holiday in the Old and New Testaments. This is the initial festival in Israel’s annual cycle of seven festivals. The holiday serves as the catalyst for the inauguration of a new religious calendar system for the Hebrews. The Passover is observed in the first month of the new year. This month is called Aviv, but following the Babylonian captivity, it became known as Nisan. Passover is the annual celebration of new beginnings and a yearly reminder of the Hebrews’ new identity as a people and nation.

In the next section of narrative, Moses relays the divine instructions for Israel’s selection and slaying of the original Passover lambs. On the tenth day of Aviv, each family is to select and set aside a lamb for their household. In the event that a family is too small to consume an entire lamb, they are to join a neighboring family. Jewish tradition determined that ten people comprise the minimum
number required to constitute a household large enough to consume a Passover lamb. The reason for this minimum is that the entire lamb had to be eaten the evening of the holiday.

The qualifying requirements for selecting a lamb were that it be either a sheep or a goat, that it be without blemish or physical imperfection of any sort, and that it be one year old. Each household’s lamb was to be set aside for four days of observation and maintenance of its perfect condition. It was then to be killed in the evening on the fourteenth day of Aviv. The text literally reads “between the evenings” and has been understood in Jewish tradition to mean either the time between sunset and full darkness (that is, twilight), or between three o’clock in the afternoon and sunset. The second rendering was accepted and applied to the Passover sacrifices during the temple era, with the lambs being slaughtered on the afternoon of the fourteenth of Nisan. The blood of the sacrificed Iamb was to be stained onto the two side posts and lintel of the home in which the Iamb would be eaten that evening. At the corner where the side posts met the lintel, the bloody stain would have formed a cross.

If the Lord tarries His coming and we live, we will continue looking at the prophetic passages of the Bible in our next broadcast / podcast.

Our second coming quote for today is from Frederic Godet. He said, “The Lord’s Supper is a link between the Lord’s First Coming and His Second Coming.”

If you are not ready for the return of Jesus Christ, may I encourage you to get ready today by receiving Him as your Savior. John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” Just believe in your heart that Jesus Christ died for your sins, was buried, and rose from the dead by the power of God for you so that you can live eternally with Him. Pray and ask Him to come into your heart today, and He will. Romans 10:13 says, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

Keep looking up for your redemption draweth nigh. Let us join in the prayer of John the Revelator — “Even so, come, Lord Jesus.” God bless you.
