Let’s take a quick look at today’s prophecy-related headlines which point towards the second coming of the Lord Jesus Christ and the end of the world as we know it.
First, today, under the Sign category of WARS & RUMORS OF WARS — According to BBC News, UK Defence Secretary Michael Fallon has said that hundreds of British troops will be sent to Iraq in the New Year. The deployment — to help train local forces — will be in the “very low hundreds” but could also include a small protection force of combat-ready soldiers. About 50 UK troops are already training Iraqi and Kurdish forces fighting Islamic State militants in Iraq.
Second, today, under the Sign category of THE TURMOIL IN ISRAEL & THE MIDDLE EAST — According to Ynet News, Hamas’ military wing launched three rockets aimed at the Mediterranean Sea on Saturday as part of experiments designed to restore their firepower to what it was before Operation Protective Edge. Saturday was the third day in a row that test rockets were launched. A Hamas official in Cairo confirmed that the organization had conducted experimental rocket launches and said that they do not constitute a violation of the ceasefire agreement between Gaza and Israel because it was not agreed upon that Hamas would be prevented from carrying out the testing of rockets.
Third, today, under the Sign category of WARS & RUMORS OF WARS — According to the Christian Post, the number of deaths related to violence caused by Nigeria’s Islamist terror group Boko Haram has been revealed to be comparable to the number of civilians killed by the Islamic State, or ISIS, in Iraq. Data compiled by the Council for Foreign Relations shows that between November 2013 and November 2014, at least 10,340 violent deaths from Boko Haram-related violence were reported. And United Nations figures show that 10,733 civilians were violently killed by ISIS in Iraq in the same period. While international media has focused its coverage on the ongoing fight against ISIS in Iraq and Syria, Boko Haram terrorists have caused immense suffering in Nigeria.
Fourth, today, under the Sign category of DISTRESS AMONG NATIONS — According to Reuters, the Federal Bureau of Investigation has warned US businesses to be on the alert for a sophisticated Iranian hacking operation whose targets include defense contractors, energy firms and educational institutions. The operation is the same as one flagged last week by cyber security firm Cylance Inc as targeting critical infrastructure organizations worldwide. Cylance has said it uncovered more than 50 victims in 16 countries including the United States. The FBI’s technical document said the hackers typically launch their attacks from two IP addresses that are in Iran, but did not attribute the attacks to the Tehran government. Cylance has said it believes Iran’s government is behind the campaign, a claim Iran has vehemently denied.
Fifth, today, under the Sign category of THE TURMOIL IN ISRAEL & THE MIDDLE EAST — According to The Times of Israel, US Secretary of State John Kerry says that he hopes to head off an end-of-year showdown at the United Nations over Palestinian statehood in meetings this week in Europe. Kerry told reporters, “There are a lot of different folks pushing in different directions out there, and the question is can we all pull in the same direction.” The Palestinians are carrying out a major campaign aiming to submit to the UN Security Council a draft resolution setting out a two- or three-year timetable for an end to Israeli occupation. They have said they would like to see the text submitted before the end of the year, prompting a surprise meeting in Rome between Kerry and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as well as other European officials.

The prophetic passage of Scripture we are looking at today is Exodus 7:4-5 which reads: “But Pharaoh shall not hearken unto you, that I may lay my hand upon Egypt, and bring forth mine armies, and my people the children of Israel, out of the land of Egypt by great judgments. And the Egyptians shall know that I am the Lord, when I stretch forth mine hand upon Egypt, and bring out the children of Israel from among them.”
Allow me to share with you some commentary on this passage from the Popular Bible Prophecy Commentary, edited by Tim LaHaye and Ed Hindson.
When Moses and Aaron ask Pharaoh to let the people of Israel go, Pharaoh challenges the brothers to work a miracle. Throughout the narrative, the Lord repeatedly mentions the impact His actions and reactions will have on the Egyptians’ minds. He is not unconcerned with establishing and maintaining His reputation among the Egyptians, and He freely demonstrates His power to make a lasting impression.
As Moses had done with his staff at Sinai, so now Aaron does with his own staff. He casts it down before Pharaoh, and it becomes a serpent. Pharaoh summons his wise men (sacred scribes educated in both human wisdom and supernatural secrets) and sorcerers (the priests of the Egyptian religious cults) who served as the magicians of Egypt. Through the exercise of demonic power, they are able to duplicate God’s sign and transform their rods into serpents as well. Jewish tradition records the names of two of the magicians who opposed Moses, Jannes and Jambres. However, in this initial supernatural power encounter between God and the Egyptian deities, the superiority of the Lord is demonstrated when Aaron’s rod swallows the rods belonging to the magicians and sorcerers.
If the Lord tarries His coming and we live, we will continue looking at the prophetic passages of the Bible in our next broadcast / podcast.
Our second coming quote for today is from Stephen Travis. He said, “The Christian hope is not a matter for tickling our minds, but for changing our minds and influencing society.”
If you are not ready for the return of Jesus Christ, may I encourage you to get ready today by receiving Him as your Savior. John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” Just believe in your heart that Jesus Christ died for your sins, was buried, and rose from the dead by the power of God for you so that you can live eternally with Him. Pray and ask Him to come into your heart today, and He will. Romans 10:13 says, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
Keep looking up for your redemption draweth nigh. Let us join in the prayer of John the Revelator — “Even so, come, Lord Jesus.” God bless you.
