Let’s take a quick look at today’s prophecy-related headlines which point towards the second coming of the Lord Jesus Christ and the end of the world as we know it.

First, today, under the Sign category of WARS & RUMORS OF WARS — According to Reuters, The foreign ministers of Iran, Syria and Iraq met in Tehran on Tuesday, saying that they would carry on working together to battle radical Sunni Muslim militants. Iran has thrown its weight behind Syrian President Bashar Assad during Syria’s three-year-old civil war and has also acknowledged sending military advisers to Iraq to help the Iraqi army in its battle against Islamic State fighters. The Iraqi and Syrian foreign ministers attended the conference on violence and extremism, taking advantage of the occasion to hold rare, three-way talks with their Iranian counterpart.

Second, today, under the Sign category of DISTRESS AMONG NATIONS — According to Jerusalem Online, an Arab British newspaper is reporting that the bombs reportedly dropped by Israeli warplanes near Damascus targeted a weapons shipment that included Yakhont ground-to-sea missiles and anti-aircraft systems that Russia had guaranteed would not be supplied to Hezbollah. Russia’s surprisingly vociferous protests over the raid was said to be a result of Moscow’s embarrassment at having been caught flagrantly violating previous commitments to Israel and the US. These commitments included a clear agreement not allow Hezbollah to be supplied with the potentially game-changing weapons.

Third, today, under the Sign category of THE TURMOIL IN ISRAEL & THE MIDDLE EAST — According to Haaretz, Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon alluded to reports of the alleged Israeli air strike on Syrian military targets in the Damascus area on Sunday. Speaking at an event honoring Israel’s wounded in war and terror, Ya’alon made an unusually direct reference to the alleged strike, saying that “whoever tries to arm our enemies should know we will reach any place at any time to thwart their plans.” He added that Israel “will not compromise on the matter and not allow the crossing of red lines that endanger the security of Israel.”

Fourth, today, under the Sign category of THE TURMOIL IN ISRAEL & THE MIDDLE EAST — According to I-24 News, Israel’s Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon told high school students in a Jewish West Bank settlement that the Obama administration “won’t be around forever” and that once it is gone, Israel will resume construction in the settlements. Ya’alon, who is no stranger to controversy with the United States, was responding to students’ questions at a religious seminary about a freeze on construction in the settlements. He said, “It’s temporary… There is a certain administration now in the United States, which is leading this policy. This administration will not stay forever.” He added that Israel needs U.S. support in order to confront anti-Israel diplomatic moves at the UN and has to be careful not to antagonize it.

Fifth, today, under the Sign category of THE TURMOIL IN ISRAEL & THE MIDDLE EAST — According to Reuters, the Irish government will accept a motion proposed by lawmakers calling on parliament to recognize “Palestine” as a state, echoing similar recent symbolic decisions in other European Union countries. While most developing countries recognize “Palestine” as a state, most Western European countries do not, supporting the Israeli and US position that an independent Palestinian state should emerge from negotiations with Israel. Ireland’s decision comes after Sweden became the biggest Western European country to recognize “Palestine,” and parliaments in Spain, Britain and France held votes in which they backed non-binding resolutions in favor of recognition.

The prophetic passage of Scripture we are looking at today is Exodus 4:22-23 which reads: “And thou shalt say unto Pharaoh, Thus saith the Lord, Israel is my son, even my firstborn: And I say unto thee, Let my son go, that he may serve me: and if thou refuse to let him go, behold, I will slay thy son, even thy firstborn.”

Allow me to share with you some commentary on this passage from the Popular Bible Prophecy Commentary, edited by Tim LaHaye and Ed Hindson.

From the outset of Moses’ mission, the Lord makes clear His divine intention to exercise powerful leverage with Pharaoh. The highest of stakes would be in play—the future of the firstborn sons of Egypt. This is appropriate because, in relation to God, Israel is His “son… my firstborn.” This powerful term, used elsewhere in Scripture, illustrates the Hebrews’ uniquely intimate relationship to God.

The fulfillment of this expressed intention is relayed in Exodus 12:29-30 with the unleashing of the tenth plague. At midnight the plague suddenly begins to roil the nation. Not one home is left unaffected by the abrupt loss of all the firstborn males, from the royal court of Pharaoh to the prison house. Each family loses at least one member as firstborn sons, fathers, and grandfathers are struck down. Even the firstborn of the cattle are killed.

If the Lord tarries His coming and we live, we will continue looking at the prophetic passages of the Bible in our next broadcast / podcast.

Our second coming quote for today is from John R. W. Stott. He said, “He who came in humility and shame will return in spectacular magnificence.”

If you are not ready for the return of Jesus Christ, may I encourage you to get ready today by receiving Him as your Savior. John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” Just believe in your heart that Jesus Christ died for your sins, was buried, and rose from the dead by the power of God for you so that you can live eternally with Him. Pray and ask Him to come into your heart today, and He will. Romans 10:13 says, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

Keep looking up for your redemption draweth nigh. Let us join in the prayer of John the Revelator — “Even so, come, Lord Jesus.” God bless you.
