Let’s take a quick look at today’s prophecy-related headlines which point towards the second coming of the Lord Jesus Christ and the end of the world as we know it.

First, today, under the Sign category of WARS & RUMORS OF WARS — According to The Washington Free Beacon, an alleged weapons maker for the Islamic State has claimed that a “radioactive device” has been smuggled into an undisclosed location in Europe. Internet messages from a freelance jihadist weapons maker that were captured and disseminated by the SITE Intelligence Group said, “A Radioactive Device has entered somewhere in Europe.” The claim comes just days after reports emerged that ISIS could have in its possession a dirty bomb, the elements of which were obtained via earlier raids on a university research facility in Mosul, Iraq, that contained uranium.

Second, today, under the Sign category of SIGNS IN THE HEAVENS — According to the Christian Science Monitor, a Russian astrophysicist says his team has located a huge, mountain-sized asteroid whose orbit crosses the Earth’s every three years. Even though experts say the giant object, known as 2014 UR116, poses no immediate threat of collision, its unexpected discovery underscores how little is still known about asteroids and their unpredictable orbits. Vladimir Lipunov, a professor at Moscow State University, said the asteroid could hit the Earth with an explosion 1,000 times greater than the surprise 2013 impact of a bus-sized meteor in Russia.

Third, today, under the Sign category of WARS & RUMORS OF WARS — According to the Washington Post, U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry told Congress on Tuesday that President Obama wants expansive war powers to pursue the Islamic State terrorists wherever and however he deems necessary, stunning lawmakers by requesting a war authorization that would even allow the Pentagon to commit American combat troops to the fight. Though Mr. Obama doesn’t want combat troops, Mr. Kerry said he won’t have Congress tie his hands against unforeseen directions the war could take should the Islamic State evolve, expand its fight to other countries, or prove more difficult to rout.

Fourth, today, under the Sign category of THE TURMOIL IN ISRAEL & THE MIDDLE EAST — According to Ynet News, Foreign Policy magazine has reported that the United States has privately accused Iran of purchasing components for its heavy water reactor in Arak in violation of UN nuclear sanctions. The magazine cites a November 7 report by a panel of eight experts advising a UN Security Council committee overseeing international compliance with sanctions, which details the allegations made by an unnamed state. Diplomatic sources, however, confirmed to the magazine that the state in question was the United States. According to Foreign Policy, Iranian procurement agents have been “increasing their efforts to illicitly obtain equipment for the research reactor at the Arak nuclear complex” in violation of its interim agreement with world powers.

Fifth, today, under the Sign category of THE TURMOIL IN ISRAEL & THE MIDDLE EAST — According to the Jerusalem Post, The International Criminal Court’s organizational body of 122 nations in New York has unanimously recognized Palestine as an observer state for the first time, a move which Palestinians hailed as an important step in achieving their final goal of formal membership. Palestinians want to sue Israel for war crimes before the ICC, but it is unclear if they can do so, because the ICC’s judicial body has not recognized them as a state. In addition, the Palestinians have not finalized their application to the court, but they have threatened to do so, should they fail in their pursuit for a UN Security Council resolution calling for an Israeli withdrawal to the pre-1967 lines.

The prophetic passage of Scripture we are looking at today is Exodus 3:12 which reads: “And [God] said [unto Moses], Certainly I will be with thee; and this shall be a token unto thee, that I have sent thee: When thou hast brought forth the people out of Egypt, ye shall serve God upon this mountain.”

Allow me to share with you some commentary on this passage from the Popular Bible Prophecy Commentary, edited by Tim LaHaye and Ed Hindson.

Moses is instructed to go to Pharaoh, together with the Hebrew leaders, and request of the king not their wholesale freedom from slavery, but rather, a brief departure. They are to petition Pharaoh for three days’ vacation from their tasks that they may worship the Lord outside the borders of Egypt. God then says Pharaoh will not grant even this minimal request.

After a demonstration of God’s wonders (at this point unspecified), the Hebrews will be free. And the Egyptians will be so favorably disposed toward them that they will not allow the Israelites to leave empty-handed. The Hebrews will receive from their taskmasters the recompense due for their labors, thus fulfilling God’s promise to Abraham that Israel would leave Egypt possessing great wealth.

Despite the divine assurance of such a wondrous outcome, Moses raises a third objection to his role in God’s plan. He is still uncertain that the Hebrews will believe him or that he can inspire their confidence so they will grant him authority to lead them.

To answer this objection, God enables Moses to perform three authenticating supernatural signs that establish his credentials as the Lord’s spokesman. First, Moses is empowered to change his shepherd’s staff into a snake and back again. Second (just in case the first sign is insufficient to generate the people’s trust), Moses is empowered to make the flesh of his hand leprous and then normal again. And third (in case the first two signs prove insufficient), Moses is empowered to turn the water of the Nile River into blood. Interestingly, unlike the first two signs, this one is not immediately reversible. This sign, however, serves as a warm-up for the first plague.

The subsequent narrative in Exodus provides a series of substantial confirmations of Moses’ divine appointment. Moses’ messages are confirmed through mighty and numerous signs and wonders. However, neither the message nor the authenticating signs make a sufficient impression upon Pharaoh. This provokes the Lord to exercise great judgments of destruction upon Egypt.

If the Lord tarries His coming and we live, we will continue looking at the prophetic passages of the Bible in our next broadcast / podcast.

Our second coming quote for today is from J. Hudson Taylor. He said, “Since he may come any day, it is well to be ready every day.”

If you are not ready for the return of Jesus Christ, may I encourage you to get ready today by receiving Him as your Savior. John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” Just believe in your heart that Jesus Christ died for your sins, was buried, and rose from the dead by the power of God for you so that you can live eternally with Him. Pray and ask Him to come into your heart today, and He will. Romans 10:13 says, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

Keep looking up for your redemption draweth nigh. Let us join in the prayer of John the Revelator — “Even so, come, Lord Jesus.” God bless you.
