The simple purpose of this broadcast is to encourage you, exhort you, and motivate you to share your faith in Jesus Christ with those who are lost around you. Even though we will share some instructions on how to witness for the Lord from time to time, we believe that most Christians do not need to learn how to witness for the Lord, they just need to go and do it; so our aim is more motivational than instructional.

Our soul winning passage from the Word of God today is Mark 8:35 which reads: “For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel’s, the same shall save it.”

Allow me to share with you some important insights regarding this Scripture from David Guzik’s Commentaries on the Bible:

We must follow Jesus this way because it is the only way that we will ever find life. It sounds strange to say, “You will never live until you walk down death row with Jesus,” but that is the idea. You can’t gain resurrection life without dying first.

You don’t lose a seed when you plant it, though it seems dead and buried. Instead, you set the seed free to be what it was always intended to be.

Our soul winning quote today is from Thom Rainer. He said: “Listening means we are willing to learn from others. Listening means we are not threatened in our own Christian beliefs by hearing what someone else believes. Listening means we really care for the person.”

Our soul winning devotional is part 67 of our series titled “What Evangelism Is” from Dave Earley and David Wheeler.

Evangelism Is…Learning to Listen

The skill of listening has always been a misunderstood expression of love. In a culture where distractions and being impersonal have become art forms, nothing is valued more as an expression of intimacy and compassion than good listening skills. This is especially vital when it comes to evangelism in today’s world.

Jesus Was a Good Listener
As you read through the Gospels and study the encounters Jesus had with people, you quickly see that He was a good listener. Jesus always practiced active listening skills. That may not sound like much, but in contemporary culture listening equals love!

One well-known story from the ministry of Jesus was when He evangelized the woman at the well. The reason Jesus connected with this woman was not only because He talked to her but because He took the time to listen. If we want to have successful relationships and be effective evangelists, we need to develop our listening skills.

In our next broadcast, we will continue looking at why evangelism is…Learning to Listen.

____________

Dear friend, if you do not know the Lord Jesus Christ as your Savior, may I encourage you to get to know Him today. John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” Just believe in your heart that Jesus Christ died for your sins, was buried, and rose from the dead by the power of God for you so that you can be a part of the church in this life and in the life to come. Pray and ask Him to come into your heart today, and He will. Romans 10:13 says, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

Until next time,

Keep the soul winner’s fire!
