Let’s take a quick look at today’s prophecy-related headlines which point towards the second coming of the Lord Jesus Christ and the end of the world as we know it.
First, today, under the Sign category of DISEASES & EPIDEMICS — According to NBC News, drug-resistant malaria is set to become the next global health crisis. Professor Francois Nosten, the director of the Shok-lo Malaria Research Unit, said, “It’s already a disaster in the making, and as physicians we have to raise the alarm. We should have declared a global emergency once we understood that the parasite had changed its genome and become resistant to the latest drugs we have.” Malaria still kills more than 600,000 people annually — mostly in Africa and mostly children. That’s more than 100 times as many people as have died during the recent Ebola outbreak.
Second, today, under the Sign category of WARS & RUMORS OF WAR — According to CNN, the U.S.-led coalition fighting ISIS in Syria has stepped up its attacks on the militant Islamist group’s de facto capital, with 30 airstrikes targeting Raqqa overnight. An opposition activist group based in Raqqa reported that about 30 airstrikes by “the crusader alliance” targeted areas northwest of the city. Previously, coalition strikes have primarily targeted Kobani, near the Turkey border. The attacks in Raqqa mark an increase in coalition activity there.
Third, today, under the Sign category of DISTRESS AMONG NATIONS– According to Reuters, Russia accused NATO on Monday of destabilizing northern Europe and the Baltics by carrying out drills there and announced new military exercises of its own, increasing tension over the Ukraine crisis. NATO responded by blaming Moscow for instability in the region, while British Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond said he was concerned by “extremely aggressive” probing of Britain’s air space by Russian planes. Russia announced it would hold more military exercises in 2015 than this year — including one in the Central military district that includes Moscow, and another involving Belarus.
Fourth, today, under the Sign category of DISEASES & EPIDEMICS — According to the Guardian, the number of people with Ebola in west Africa has risen above 16,000. The WHO has warned that its figures could be a significant underestimation of the number of infections and deaths. Data from the outbreak has been patchy and the totals often rise considerably when backlogs of information are cleared. The latest confirmed data shows that almost half those known to have been infected with Ebola have died.
Fifth, today, under the Sign category of INCREASE IN VIOLENCE — According to the Associated Press, the United Nations says that more than 1,200 Iraqis were killed in November by acts of terrorism and violence. According to the UN Assistance Mission for Iraq, 1,232 Iraqis were killed in November and 2,434 were wounded. The figures estimate that at least 402 people were killed in Anbar province — the majority of them in Ramadi, where the Islamic State militant group continues to clash with Iraqi security forces. The UN independently verified that at least 332 people were killed in Baghdad province.

The prophetic passage of Scripture we are looking at today is Genesis 46:2-3 which reads: “And God spake unto Israel in the visions of the night, and said, Jacob, Jacob. And he said, Here am I. And he said, I am God, the God of thy father: fear not to go down into Egypt; for I will there make of thee a great nation: I will go down with thee into Egypt; and I will also surely bring thee up again: and Joseph shall put his hand upon thine eyes.”
Allow me to share with you some commentary on this passage from the Popular Bible Prophecy Commentary, edited by Tim LaHaye and Ed Hindson.
Having joyously discovered that his son Joseph, whom he had believed to be dead for two decades, is alive, Jacob, along with the entire family, emigrates to Egypt to live under Joseph’s munificence. On the way to Egypt, Jacob offers sacrifices to God at Beersheba. That evening the Lord reassures Jacob of His divine blessing. Jacob is not to be afraid of an Egyptian sojourn, for while Jacob’s family is in Egypt, God would forge them into “a great nation.” The Israelites’ time in Egypt would be temporary, was for their benefit, and would be divinely superintended. That Jacob understood God’s reassurance concerning the temporary nature of his family’s time in Egypt is evidenced by Joseph’s deathbed request that his bones accompany the Hebrews upon their eventual exodus from Egypt back into the land of promise.
A special reassurance is that Jacob is about to see his son, Joseph, and that the two would not part again before Jacob’s death. The narrative of Genesis 46:29 relays how Joseph, riding to meet his beloved Father in his royal chariot, is emotionally reunited with his Father.
If the Lord tarries His coming and we live, we will continue looking at the prophetic passages of the Bible in our next broadcast / podcast.
Our second coming quote for today is from J.C. Pollock. He said, “Millions of graves are dug every year, but it is inspiring to think that one generation of Christians will cheat the undertaker.”
If you are not ready for the return of Jesus Christ, may I encourage you to get ready today by receiving Him as your Savior. John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” Just believe in your heart that Jesus Christ died for your sins, was buried, and rose from the dead by the power of God for you so that you can live eternally with Him. Pray and ask Him to come into your heart today, and He will. Romans 10:13 says, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
Keep looking up for your redemption draweth nigh. Let us join in the prayer of John the Revelator — “Even so, come, Lord Jesus.” God bless you.
