As a church in Terrell, Texas, mourned members of a family of five killed last week on their way to Disney World, a district attorney here said he would drop charges against the 16-year-old driver accused of causing the accident.
The teen, whose name was not released, was driving a Chevrolet Tahoe on Interstate 20 near Calhoun, La., about 240 miles east of Terrell and 15 miles west of Monroe when he admitted he fell asleep at around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday and lost control of the vehicle.
Six of the eight occupants of the vehicle — including parents Michael and Trudi Hardman of Terrell and children Dakota Watson, 15, Kaci Hardman, 4, and Adam Hardman, 7 — were ejected. Five died.
They were heading to Disney World outside of Orlando, Fla., for a Thanksgiving vacation.
