Let’s take a quick look at today’s prophecy-related headlines which point towards the second coming of the Lord Jesus Christ and the end of the world as we know it.

First, today, under the Sign category of DISTRESS AMONG NATIONS — According to CNN, the head of the National Security Agency said China and “probably one or two other” countries have the capacity to shut down the nation’s power grid and other critical infrastructure through a cyber attack. Admiral Michael Rogers, who also serves the dual role as head of U.S. Cyber Command, said the United States has detected malware from China and elsewhere on U.S. computers systems that affect the daily lives of every American. Rogers said the malware “enables you to shut down very segmented, very tailored parts of our infrastructure that forestall the ability to provide that service to us as citizens.” He added that such attacks are part of the “coming trends” he sees based on “reconnaissance” currently taking place showing that nation-states or other actors may be able to exploit vulnerabilities in U.S. cyber systems.

Second, today, under the Sign category of DISTRESS AMONG NATIONS — According to Reuters, Russia warned the United States against supplying arms to Ukrainian forces fighting pro-Russian separatists in eastern Ukraine, hours before U.S. Vice-President Joe Biden was due to arrive in Kiev. Ukraine accused President Vladimir Putin of treating its territory like a “playing field”, trying to unleash a full-scale war that would pose a broader threat to NATO countries. The Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman said in Moscow that a U.S. official’s suggestion that Washington should consider sending arms to Ukraine, where pro-Russian rebels have been fighting government forces since April, sent a ‘very serious signal…that would be a direct violation of agreements reached.’

Third, today, under the Sign category of THE TURMOIL IN ISRAEL & THE MIDDLE EAST — According to Reuters, the U.N. nuclear agency said Iran has yet to explain suspected atomic bomb research just two days before a deadline for a comprehensive deal between Iran and six world powers to end the 12-year-old controversy. The director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency made clear that it was far from satisfied, saying it was not in a position to provide “credible assurance” that Iran had no undeclared nuclear material and activities.

Fourth, today, under the Sign category of DISTRESS AMONG NATIONS — According to the Associated Press, Russian President Vladimir Putin accused the United States of trying to make Russia submissive; an effort he said won’t succeed. Speaking at a televised meeting with pro-Kremlin activists, Putin said that Washington “wants to subdue us [and] wants to solve its problems at our expense. No one has succeeded in doing so in the history of Russia, and no one will.” He said the sanctions against Russia imposed by the U.S. and the European Union run contrary to their own interests and added that U.S. allies in Europe were trying to “protect others’ national interests” for reasons that were unclear.

Fifth, today, under the Sign category of DISTRESS AMONG NATIONS — According to Reuters, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov called the “reckless” expansion of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization a mistake that would hurt Europe’s security. he said in a news conference with the Hungarian foreign minister, “We believe, and we’ve been talking about it since the very beginning of the current historical period that the reckless, endless expansion of NATO is a mistake that undermines Europe’s stability.” Lavrov added that Ukraine’s neutral status was key for security and for the country’s national interests.

The prophetic passage of Scripture we are looking at today is Genesis 28:3-4 which reads: “And God Almighty bless thee, and make thee fruitful, and multiply thee, that thou mayest be a multitude of people; And give thee the blessing of Abraham, to thee, and to thy seed with thee; that thou mayest inherit the land wherein thou art a stranger, which God gave unto Abraham.”

Allow me to share with you some commentary on this passage from the Popular Bible Prophecy Commentary, edited by Tim LaHaye and Ed Hindson.

Jacob, prior to fleeing the retributive wrath of his brother Esau for the theft of their father’s blessing, is summoned into Isaac’s presence for an additional, final blessing. Whereas earlier Isaac had unknowingly transferred the inheritance of the Abrahamic covenant upon Jacob, here he grants a blessing to Jacob with purpose and intention. The patriarch petitions the Lord for Jacob and his progeny to receive the “blessing of Abraham,” summarized as the multiplication of Jacob’s seed and possession of the land “which God gave to Abraham.”

Shortly thereafter, Isaac’s blessing is confirmed to Jacob by the Lord through a divine reaffirmation of the Abrahamic Covenant. After Jacob departs the land of promise and while he is resting on his journey toward Haran, the Lord appears to him and identifies Himself as “the God of your father Abraham and the God of Isaac.” At this time, Jacob is unconditionally promised inheritance of the land, the multiplication of his descendants (“like the dust of the earth”), universal blessing (“in your descendants shall all the families of the earth be blessed”), and the continued presence and protection of the Lord.

If the Lord tarries His coming and we live, we will continue looking at the prophetic passages of the Bible in our next broadcast / podcast.

Our second coming quote for today is from William Gurnall. He said, “Christ hath told us he will come, but not when, that we might never put off our clothes, or put out the candle.”

If you are not ready for the return of Jesus Christ, may I encourage you to get ready today by receiving Him as your Savior. John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” Just believe in your heart that Jesus Christ died for your sins, was buried, and rose from the dead by the power of God for you so that you can live eternally with Him. Pray and ask Him to come into your heart today, and He will. Romans 10:13 says, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

Keep looking up for your redemption draweth nigh. Let us join in the prayer of John the Revelator — “Even so, come, Lord Jesus.” God bless you.
