Let’s take a quick look at today’s prophecy-related headlines which point towards the second coming of the Lord Jesus Christ and the end of the world as we know it.
First, today, under the Sign category of THE TURMOIL IN ISRAEL & THE MIDDLE EAST — According to The Washington Post, Israelis and Palestinians expressed fear that their decades-old conflict was moving beyond the traditional nationalist struggle between two peoples fighting for their homelands and spiraling into a raw and far-reaching religious confrontation between Jews and Muslims. The threat of an incipient but deadly “religious war” was expressed by Muslim clerics, Christian leaders and Jewish Israelis days after a pair of Palestinian assailants, wielding meat cleavers and a gun, killed five Israelis, including a prominent American Israeli rabbi, in a Jerusalem synagogue. For weeks, Jerusalem has been a center of clashes, protests, and deadly attacks that began over one of the city’s major flash points: a contested religious site known to Muslims as the Noble Sanctuary and to Jews as the Temple Mount.
Second, today, under the Sign category of DISTRESS AMONG NATIONS — According to The Jerusalem Post, lethal anti-Semitism in Israel and across Europe has sparked enhanced security measures in Diaspora communities. The British Community Security Trust, an organization devoted to the security of British Jewry, issued a warning that contained nine instructions to Jewish institutions, including a call to “ensure that visible external security patrols take place to deter and detect hostile activity” and immediate reporting to police of any suspicious behavior. Speaking from New York, Rabbi Abraham Cooper, the associate dean of the Simon Wiesenthal Center, said the human rights group center is in touch with key Los Angeles police department officials. He noted that the US “has the second largest Jewish community in the world and the intelligence folks have to be ahead of the curve.” He said there is a “deep sense of unease” because of the Palestinian terrorist attacks in Jerusalem.
Third, today, under the Sign category of WARS & RUMORS OF WARS — According to Reuters, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the Syrian air force launched about 1,592 strikes across Syria over the past month, killing at least 396 civilians. At least 1,500 people were also wounded in the attacks, which were carried out by warplanes and helicopters which dropped “barrel bombs”, steel drums full of shrapnel and explosives. Syrian government air strikes have increased since the US-led coalition started attacking Islamic State positions inside Syria in September. Analysts say the increase could be because the Syrian military wants to weaken rebel groups before they get the training and equipment promised by the United States.
Fourth, today, under the Sign category of THE TURMOIL IN ISRAEL & THE MIDDLE EAST — According to Fox News, facing the same type of underground routes out of Gaza that allowed terrorists to mount attacks on Israel, Egypt is considering creating a huge, 1,000-meter buffer zone in the Sinai Peninsula. They have already evicted 10,000 people in the process of clearing the first 500 meters, and they plan to dig a deep-water trench that would flood any future efforts to carve subterranean routes for smuggling weapons and terrorists in and out of Gaza. Unlike the fierce resistance and international public relations campaign Hamas mounted against Israel in August, the terrorist group that governs Gaza appears to not be seeking a head-on fight with Cairo. However, constant attacks on Egyptian civilians and soldiers by Sinai-based terrorists allegedly working closely with Hamas appear to have pushed the Egyptian President to the brink.
Fifth, today, under the Sign category of WARS & RUMORS OF WARS — According to the Washington Post, Kurdish forces, backed by U.S.-led airstrikes, launched a new offensive targeting the Islamic State in areas of Iraq that the extremist group captured in the summer. The operation came as Turkey said details have not been finalized for a deal that would have the country train rebels to battle the Islamic State in Syria, where the militant group also holds territory. Kurdish forces are working with the Iraqi army to retake two towns and are being back by airstrikes in a bid to retake another.

The prophetic passage of Scripture we are looking at today is Genesis 27:27-29 which reads: “And he came near, and kissed him: and he smelled the smell of his raiment, and blessed him, and said, See, the smell of my son is as the smell of a field which the Lord hath blessed: Therefore God give thee of the dew of heaven, and the fatness of the earth, and plenty of corn and wine: Let people serve thee, and nations bow down to thee: be lord over thy brethren, and let thy mother’s sons bow down to thee: cursed be every one that curseth thee, and blessed be he that blesseth thee.”
Allow me to share with you some commentary on this passage from the Popular Bible Prophecy Commentary, edited by Tim LaHaye and Ed Hindson.
Having earlier obtained Esau’s birthright through a trade, Jacob now steals his older brother’s rightful blessing through duplicity and deception. Taking advantage of his father Isaac’s blindness by disguising himself as Esau, Jacob comes before his father. He then receives the prophetic blessing meant for Isaac’s firstborn son, Esau. Isaac’s blessing of Jacob is fourfold: First, blessing is granted in the area of agricultural and economic prosperity. Second, blessing is granted in the area of intercultural relations with other nations and clans. Third, Jacob is granted his father’s patriarchal authority over Esau and his descendants. And fourth, Isaac transfers the inheritance of the Abrahamic Covenant upon his son by quoting God’s foundational promise of reciprocal blessing and cursing (originally made to Abraham in Genesis 12:3).
If the Lord tarries His coming and we live, we will continue looking at the prophetic passages of the Bible in our next broadcast / podcast.
Our second coming quote for today is from William Freel. He said, “As Christians, we should not be exitists, looking for our going, but adventists, looking for his coming.”
If you are not ready for the return of Jesus Christ, may I encourage you to get ready today by receiving Him as your Savior. John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” Just believe in your heart that Jesus Christ died for your sins, was buried, and rose from the dead by the power of God for you so that you can live eternally with Him. Pray and ask Him to come into your heart today, and He will. Romans 10:13 says, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
Keep looking up for your redemption draweth nigh. Let us join in the prayer of John the Revelator — “Even so, come, Lord Jesus.” God bless you.
