Let’s take a quick look at today’s prophecy-related headlines which point towards the second coming of the Lord Jesus Christ and the end of the world as we know it.

First, today, under the Sign category of THE TURMOIL IN ISRAEL & THE MIDDLE EAST — According to The Independent, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has vowed to win the “battle for Jerusalem” after four rabbis and a policeman were killed in a frenzied attack on a synagogue. After the bloodshed, Netanyahu declared that Israel is “in a battle for its eternal capital” and vowed to “settle the score with every terrorist and their dispatchers”. The prime minister also denounced what he described as “shouts of joy” from the dozens who celebrated in the streets of Gaza after the killing spree.

Second, today, under the Sign category of THE TURMOIL IN ISRAEL & THE MIDDLE EAST — According to The Jerusalem Post, In light of increased tensions with Hezbollah in Lebanon, the Israeli air force, ground forces and navy have increased the number of joint exercises in recent weeks. The IDF says the changes have seen a “significant” rise in integrated drills which focus on a range of combat scenarios, including underwater missions, air-based missions and the deployment of infantry units. The Israel Navy’s northern Security Company is taking part in the strenuous combat preparation program after Hezbollah planted and detonated two bombs along the Lebanese-Israeli border in October.

Third, today, under the Sign category of WARS & RUMORS OF WARS– According to Reuters, the president of Iraqi Kurdistan accused Western countries on Wednesday of not providing enough heavy weapons to help his forces deliver a “decisive blow” against Islamic State militants. President Bar-za-ni said, ‘We have not received the heavy weapons systems that we need for a decisive war against them.’ France says it has provided machine guns and munitions and has promised to give “sophisticated” weapons to Iraqi Kurds. Some 200 French special forces are also on the ground training the Iraqi Kurds. Germany has said it is sending weapons to equip 4,000 Kurdish fighters, including machine guns, grenades, anti-tank systems and armored vehicles. Great Britain has said it will provide anti-tank weapons, night-vision goggles, radar and body armor .

Fourth, today, under the Sign category of INCREASED NATURAL DISASTERS — According to Newsmax, with nasty cold fronts thrusting an icy and early winter across the continental U.S., climatologist John L. Casey thinks the weather pattern is here to stay for decades to come. The former space shuttle engineer and NASA consultant, says trends indicate earth could be headed for colder temperatures similar to those seen in the late 1700s and early 1800s when the sun went into a “solar minimum” — a phenomenon with significantly reduced solar activity, including solar flares and sunspots. He predicts that frigid temperatures and food shortages could inevitably result in chaos and widespread unrest.

Fifth, today, under the Sign category of EARTHQUAKES IN DIVERS PLACES — According to the Associated Press, a strong magnitude-6.7 earthquake that struck off the New Zealand coast on Monday rattled the country but did not result in any initial reports of damage or injuries. The quake was felt throughout much of country, and most people reported feeling it as a light or moderate shaking. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center did not issue a tsunami warning.

The prophetic passage of Scripture we are looking at today is Genesis 22:1-2 which reads: “And it came to pass after these things, that God did tempt Abraham, and said unto him, Abraham: and he said, Behold, here I am. And he said, Take now thy son, thine only son Isaac, whom thou lovest, and get thee into the land of Moriah; and offer him there for a burnt offering upon one of the mountains which I will tell thee of.”

Allow me to share with you some commentary on this passage from the Popular Bible Prophecy Commentary, edited by Tim LaHaye and Ed Hindson.

Regarding Abraham’s divinely initiated and subsequently aborted sacrifice of his son, commonly known in Jewish tradition as the A-ke-dah, “the binding of Isaac”, the rabbinic teaching has always viewed the willing sacrifice of Abraham, and especially Isaac’s willingness to offer himself, as an act of vicarious atonement throughout the future history of their descendants, the nation of Israel. The righteousness of their patriarchs could be vicariously applied to their descendants in time of spiritual need.

The rabbis were not completely off base when they saw a picture of atonement in Isaac. The events of Genesis 22 are a prime example of what Scripture calls “a mere shadow of what is to come.” Isaac was a prophetic type, a picture, of the Messiah. Jesus was not only the ultimate Israel, the ultimate David, and the ultimate Moses, but also the ultimate Isaac. Both Isaac and Jesus were the sons of promise. Both men had miraculous births. Both were obedient and willing sons who were prepared to lay down their lives at their Father’s behest. Both sons even carried the wood for their own sacrifice.

Both Isaac and Jesus had fathers who were prepared to slay them to fulfill a larger purpose. As Abraham was willing to sacrifice his son, so too was God willing to sacrifice His only Son. Yet God did not demand of Abraham what He demanded of Himself. The Lord provided a substitute sacrifice for the son of Abraham, a ram caught in the thicket. However, there was no alternative sacrifice for the Son of God. Jesus became the Lamb of God, slain for the sin of the world. If indeed Christ Himself was the angel of the Lord who called to Abraham, then He was not willing that Abraham slay his son. Yet He was willing to let the Father sacrifice Him on our behalf.

If the Lord tarries His coming and we live, we will continue looking at this prophecy in our next broadcast / podcast.

Our second coming quote for today is from Anthony Ashley Cooper. He said, “The only remedy for all this mass of misery is the return of our Lord Jesus Christ. Why do we not plead for it every time we hear the clock strike?”

If you are not ready for the return of Jesus Christ, may I encourage you to get ready today by receiving Him as your Savior. John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” Just believe in your heart that Jesus Christ died for your sins, was buried, and rose from the dead by the power of God for you so that you can live eternally with Him. Pray and ask Him to come into your heart today, and He will. Romans 10:13 says, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

Keep looking up for your redemption draweth nigh. Let us join in the prayer of John the Revelator — “Even so, come, Lord Jesus.” God bless you.
