
Media mogul/actress Oprah Winfrey and actor David Oyelowo are starring in an amazing new biopic about the late Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The film,Selma, is due in theaters on Christmas day December 25, 2014, and critics are already giving the film two thumbs up. Directed by Ava DuVernay and produced by Oprah Winfrey herself and Brad Pitt, the film is already creating an Oscar buzz. It’s being co-produced by Harpo Productions and distributed by a division of Paramount Pictures.Winfrey and Oyelowo co-starred together already in the hit 2013 film The Butler, which starred Forest Whitaker. But this time, the two are the stars themselves. Oyelowo plays Dr. King, one of the most well-known civil rights leaders in history, and Winfrey plays one of his avid supporters.
Actor Tom Wilkinson plays President Lyndon Johnson, rapper Common plays Bevel, and actress Carmen Ejogo plays the character of Coretta Scott King. The film also co-stars Cuba Gooding, Jr. as famed civil rights attorney and activist Fred Gray, and Niecy Nash who plays Richie Jean Jackson, the wife of Dr. Sullivan Jackson.
