Let’s take a quick look at today’s prophecy-related headlines which point towards the second coming of the Lord Jesus Christ and the end of the world as we know it.
First, today, under the Sign category of THE TURMOIL IN ISRAEL & THE MIDDLE EAST — According to The Times of Israel, a top Iranian military commander announced on Wednesday that Palestinian terrorist groups and Hezbollah received Fateh-class missiles that are able to attack any target in Israel. The general also said Tehran has provided Hezbollah and Hamas with advanced rocket training. If true, this would be the first public revelation by Iran that the Palestinians are in possession of Fateh missiles that have a range of 200 kilometers, putting all of Israel at risk.
Second, today, under the Sign category of WARS & RUMORS OF WARS — According to the Associated Press, in a show of military muscle amid tensions with the West, Russia will send long-range strategic bombers on regular patrol missions across the globe, from the Arctic Ocean to the Gulf of Mexico. The announcement by the Russian Defense Minister came as NATO accused Russia of sending fresh troops and tanks into eastern Ukraine. NATO’s Secretary-General said, “Over the last few days, we have seen multiple reports of large convoys moving into Eastern Ukraine. We assess that this significant military buildup includes Russian artillery, tanks, air defense systems and troops.” His statement called the situation a “severe threat to the cease-fire.”
Third, today, under the Sign category of DISTRESS AMONG NATIONS — According to Reuters, gunmen in a fishing boat opened fire on an Egyptian naval vessel which shot back, killing at least four of the attackers on Wednesday. No one immediately claimed responsibility for the assault in the Mediterranean. The military has faced continued attacks from Islamist militants based in the Sinai Peninsula further east. The Egyptian navy destroyed four of the militants’ boats and captured 32 individuals in what it termed a “terrorist incident.” The statement said five navy forces were wounded and eight others were still unaccounted for.
Fourth, today, under the Sign category of THE TURMOIL IN ISRAEL & THE MIDDLE EAST — According to Russia Today, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has declared that Iran is “an enemy of America” and “not a partner,” warning the United States that Tehran cannot be relied on to fight the Islamic State and should not retain a nuclear program. In a video message, Netanyahu delivered his remarks to the Jewish Federations of North America, which had gathered in Washington, DC. The Israeli leader expressed his concern that the world powers negotiating with Iran this week will reach an agreement to remove sanctions against the country and allow it to become a “threshold nuclear power.”
Fifth, today, under the Sign category of WARS & RUMORS OF WARS — According to Agence France-Presse (AFP), Armenia threatened ‘grave consequences’ after Azerbaijani forces shot down a military helicopter, sparking fears of a major escalation in the conflict over a disputed region. The downing of the helicopter belonging to the army of the breakaway ethnic Armenian region is the most serious incident since a 1994 ceasefire ended a bloody war that cost 30,000 lives. Armenian media reported that the helicopter’s three crew members were all killed.

The prophetic passage of Scripture we are looking at today is Genesis 22:15-18 which reads: “And the angel of the Lord called unto Abraham out of heaven the second time, And said, By myself have I sworn, saith the Lord, for because thou hast done this thing, and hast not withheld thy son, thine only son: That in blessing I will bless thee, and in multiplying I will multiply thy seed as the stars of the heaven, and as the sand which is upon the sea shore; and thy seed shall possess the gate of his enemies; And in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because thou hast obeyed my voice.”
Allow me to share with you some commentary on this passage from the Popular Bible Prophecy Commentary, edited by Tim LaHaye and Ed Hindson.
The fifth and climatic expansion of the Abrahamic Covenant is found in Genesis 22:15-18, in conjunction with the famous narrative of the binding of Isaac, the ultimate test of the faith of Abraham, the father of multitudes. Having been prepared to obediently sacrifice his only son, the son of promise, Abraham is divinely recognized as the worthy recipient of the covenant promises.
Using the most intensive form of divine oath (“by Myself I have sworn”), the Lord restates and ratifies four separate components of the covenant. First, hearkening back to the initial promise of Genesis 12:2, the Lord restates His intention of divine blessing. Second, echoing the promises of Genesis 13:16, 15:5, and 17:2-6, God restates His promise of innumerable descendants. Third, summarizing the promises of possession of the land, and with veiled reference to the nations mentioned in Genesis 15:19-21, the Lord promises Abraham’s descendants possession of enemy cities. Fourth, hearkening back to the initial set of promises concerning universal influence in Genesis 12:3, the Lord reaffirms that all nations would be blessed through the seed of Abraham.
The influence of the Abrahamic Covenant is woven throughout the tapestry of Scripture, from the twelfth chapter of Genesis through the final chapter of Revelation. It forms the foundational basis for every subsequent covenant found in the Bible. Absent this covenant (or through the neutering of this covenant through the spiritualization of its promises), Israel’s right to the land is incomprehensible, the messianic age could never be anticipated, and the bringing together of Jews and Gentiles in spiritual union would be unthinkable. Echoes of the Abrahamic Covenant’s celebrated themes of blessing resound from the exodus through conquest, from kingdom to exile, from incarnation to resurrection, and from the nation of Israel to the universal dominion of the Messiah.
If the Lord tarries His coming and we live, we will continue looking at this prophecy in our next broadcast / podcast.
Our second coming quote for today is from John Blanchard. He said, “The certainty of the Second Coming of Christ should touch and tincture every part of our daily behavior.”
If you are not ready for the return of Jesus Christ, may I encourage you to get ready today by receiving Him as your Savior. John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” Just believe in your heart that Jesus Christ died for your sins, was buried, and rose from the dead by the power of God for you so that you can live eternally with Him. Pray and ask Him to come into your heart today, and He will. Romans 10:13 says, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
Keep looking up for your redemption draweth nigh. Let us join in the prayer of John the Revelator — “Even so, come, Lord Jesus.” God bless you.
