Fox News has cut ties with contributor Dr. Ben Carson after learning that the neurosurgeon-turned-conservative commentator plans to air a 40-minute ad promoting his bid for the Republican presidential nomination.
Carson’s ad, “A Breath of Fresh Air: A New Prescription for America,” recounts Carson’s childhood in Detroit, his work as director of pediatric neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins, and his rise as a conservative darling in the wake of a speech criticizing Obamacare. The ad will run this weekend in 22 states.
Fox News previously cut ties with contributors upon learning of their political ambitions, including presidential candidates Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum in 2012 and New Hampshire Senate candidate Scott Brown in 2014.
