The Church of God in Christ’s 107th Holy Convocation convention has been meeting in downtown St. Louis this week, bringing an estimated 28,000 to the area.
The church, the nation’s largest African-American Pentecostal denomination, has held its annual Holy Convocation in St. Louis at America’s Center each November since 2010. It will continue to host the convention here through 2016. The event had been held in the Church of God in Christ’s headquarters city of Memphis, Tenn., for more than a century before outgrowing facilities there.
The St. Louis Convention and Visitors Commission estimates that the conference will bring nearly $15 million in direct spending to the region and that there were so many attendees to this year’s event that they spread to 18 hotels throughout the St. Louis area.
