First, today, let’s look at some Signs of His Coming in the news.

The disciples asked Jesus in Matthew 24:3, “What shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?” Jesus Christ then went on to give them (and us) clear signs that show us when we can begin to expect to see the coming of the Lord and the end of the world. Those signs include:

1. the appearance of false Christs and false prophets
2. wars and rumors of wars
3. famines
4. pestilences (fatal epidemic diseases)
5. earthquakes in divers (various) places
6. increased persecution of believers
7. the Gospel being preached in all the world
8. signs and great wonders in the heavens (involving the sun, moon, stars, and planetary movements)
9. distress and perplexity among people
10. increased violence “as in the days of Noah”
11. increased homosexuality and sexual immorality “as it was in the days of Lot”
12. the rise of “Gog and Magog” (which many Bible scholars believe refers to Russia)
13. the rise of the “kings of the east” (which many Bible scholars believe refers to China)
14. increase in knowledge (science and technology)
15. apostasy in the church
16. interest in a unified world government to bring about global peace
17. interest in the rebuilding of the Temple in Jerusalem

The Bible also speaks of other signs which will be evident in “perilous times” in Second Timothy 3. Those signs are people being:

18. selfish
19. covetous
20. boasters
21. proud
22. blasphemers
23. disobedient to parents
24. unthankful
25. unholy
26. without natural affection
27. trucebreakers
28. false accusers
29. incontinent
30. fierce
31. despisers of those that are good
32. traitors
33. heady
34. high-minded
35. lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God
36. having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof.

Other signs of the times which have been gleaned from Scripture include:
37. scoffers who mock of Christ’s return
38. movement toward a one-world religion
39. outpouring of the Holy Spirit
40. outbreak of demonic and occultic activity
41. re-establishment of Israel
42. Arab hostility toward Israel
43. re-unification of Europe
44. movement toward a one-world economy

Looking at world events through the lens of the Word of God, let’s look at some headlines from today’s news that point to the second coming of the Lord Jesus Christ.

First, today, under the Sign category of THE TURMOIL IN ISRAEL & THE MIDDLE EAST — According to the Associated Press, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Kuwait are discussing the creation of a military pact to take on Islamic militants, with the possibility of a joint force to intervene around the Middle East. The alliance would also serve as a show of strength to counterbalance their traditional rival, Shiite-dominated, Iran. Two countries are seen as potential theaters for the alliance to act: Libya, where Islamic militants have taken over several cities, and Yemen, where Shiite rebels suspected of links to Iran have seized control of the capital. The U.S. Arab allies’ consideration of a joint force illustrates a desire to go beyond the international coalition that the United States has put together to wage an air campaign against the Islamic State group in Iraq and Syria.

Second, today, under the Sign category of SIGNS IN THE HEAVENS — According to ABC News, a brilliant light that streaked across the skies of Japan on Monday night was likely a fireball meteor called a bolide. Camera footage filmed from a moving car shows a bright light sailing across the sky in western Japan. Observatories in western Japanese prefectures also received eyewitness accounts of a bright object in the sky. Another bright object was also spotted Monday night on the East Coast of the United States. Believed to be a meteor, residents from 11 eastern states reported seeing the object.

Third, today, under the Sign category of DISTRESS AMONG NATIONS — According to The Jerusalem Post, US officials said this week that Iran might be willing to ship much of its uranium stockpile to Russia as part of a comprehensive agreement with world powers over its nuclear program. Russia would reportedly convert much of the 28,000-pound stockpile into fuel rods for peaceful use in Iran’s nuclear power plant. Russia is engaged in talks with Iran alongside the US, the United Kingdom, France, China and Germany to reach a final agreement by November 24.

Fourth, today, under the Sign category of THE TURMOIL IN ISRAEL & THE MIDDLE EAST — According to the Times of Israel, Has-san Nas-rall-ah told supporters in a fiery speech on Tuesday that Hezbollah’s rockets can hit anywhere in Israel and that the Lebanese terror group is not afraid to fight Israel in another war. He said Hezbollah “is fully ready in southern Lebanon” and said the group’s activities fighting in support of the Syrian regime had not affected its battle readiness. Hezbollah’s campaigns in Syria have cost the group over 1,000 fighters, according to some reports.

Fifth, today, under the Sign category of EARTHQUAKES IN DIVERS PLACES — According to CBS News, an earthquake registering a preliminary magnitude of 4.1 struck the northwest corner of Nevada near the borders of Oregon and California on Tuesday morning. The quake hit in a remote area of the Sheldon National Wildlife Refuge, which recently had a swarm of earthquakes. The quake struck right at earth’s surface where quakes can feel much stronger than their actual reported magnitude and can cause even more damage at lower magnitudes.

The Bible says in John 6:44: “No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.”

Now, it’s time for Prophecy Bootcamp.

Prophecy Bootcamp is where we deal with the basics of prophecy, the Second Coming of Christ, and what will happen in the future according to the Bible. Our aim here is not to make predictions but to help you get prepared by understanding how things will unfold in the end times.

Our topic for today is titled “Where Are We Headed? (Part 3)” from Dr. Ed Hindson’s book “Revelation: Unlocking the Future”.

The book of Revelation presents a series of panoramic pictures, followed by a series of snapshots. You get the big picture first, then the specifics. The pattern of the book is generally: Bad news — details to follow, or good news — details to follow. Therefore, things are not in precise sequential order.

Consider these examples. The seven churches are introduced in Revelation 1:20, but the letters sent to them follow in chapters 2 and 3. The Lamb appears to take the seven-sealed book in Revelation 5:5-7, but the seals are not opened until Revelation 6:1 – 8:1. The seven trumpets are introduced in Revelation 8:2, but the final trumpet does not sound until Revelation 11:15. Armageddon is mentioned in Revelation 16:16, but the details about the fall of “Babylon” and the triumphal return of Christ don’t come until chapters 17 – 19. The Bride of Christ appears at the Marriage Supper in Revelation 19:7-9, but she is not described in full detail until Revelation 21:9-27.

The contents of the Revelation move in a series of progressions:

1. Christ appears to John — on Patmos.
2. He dictates the letters to the seven churches — on earth.
3. John is transported into God’s throne room — in heaven.
4. He sees the future judgments — from heaven.
5. John sees the seven symbolic players — from heaven and earth.
6. He sees the seven last plagues — from heaven.
7. John witnesses the marriage supper of the Lamb in heaven and His triumphal return to earth.
8. He views the Millennial Kingdom — on earth.
9. John sees the new heaven and the new earth in eternity.
10. He hears the final invitation appeal and adds his own: “Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus.”

Lord willing, we will continue looking at this topic on our next broadcast/podcast.

In closing, let’s consider what God wants you and me to do in light of His Second Coming.

Jesus Christ said in Luke 19:13 to “Occupy till I come.” In light of that, we are continuing our Bible study series on the books of First & Second Thessalonians which Paul wrote to believers who had concerns about the Second Coming of Jesus Christ, and what they should do as they waited. This section is titled “Comfort at the Grave (Part 11)” from the book “Waiting on the Second Coming” by Ray C. Stedman.

The third sound Paul connects with the initial appearance of Jesus Christ is “the trumpet call of God” such as was heard at Mount Sinai when the Law was given. At that time the trumpet sounded so loudly that the people cried out to Moses and trembled with fear. I do not think the whole world will hear this call. In 1 Corinthians 15, the great resurrection chapter, Paul says, “Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep [i.e., not all believers will go to heaven by death], but we will all be changed — in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet.” This verse speaks of those saints who will be alive when Christ returns. We are not all going to die; but the important thing is that “we will all be changed.” Although inaudible to the world, when that trumpet call reaches the ears of living believers, they will be changed and caught up to be with the Lord.

If the Lord tarries His coming and we live, we will continue looking at this topic in our next broadcast/podcast.

Remember the words of the Lord in Matthew 24:42: “Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come.” Matthew 24:44 says, “Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.”

If you are not ready for the return of Jesus Christ, may I encourage you to get ready today by receiving Him as your Savior. John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” Just believe in your heart that Jesus Christ died for your sins, was buried, and rose from the dead by the power of God for you so that you can live eternally with Him. Pray and ask Him to come into your heart today, and He will. Romans 10:13 says, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

Keep looking up for your redemption draweth nigh. Let us join in the prayer of John the Revelator — “Even so, come, Lord Jesus.” God bless you.
