Gwen Carr denies allegations that police were under order to fix her headlights after a traffic stop. The mother of Eric Garner, the unarmed New York City man who died after being placed in an illegal choke hold by a police officer earlier this year, is denying allegations that she received special treatment from city police officers during an Oct. 21 traffic stop, reports the New York Daily News.

Gwen Carr told an audience at the National Action Network that the officers who fixed her broken headlight were not under orders to do so. “I didn’t ask anyone to do anything for me. As the police explained, it was a courtesy on their end,” Carr said.

Police union officials say otherwise. They claim that the officers were under orders to fix the headlight to prevent Carr from facing a summons.
