Let’s take a quick look at today’s prophecy-related headlines which point towards the second coming of the Lord Jesus Christ and the end of the world as we know it.

First, today, under the Sign category of WARS & RUMORS OF WARS — According to Voice of America News, Arab news channels are reporting heavy fighting in the center of Benghazi between forces loyal to the Libyan Army and a group of Islamist militias. The army has called on residents to evacuate amid heavy shelling. Pitched battles were reported in Benghazi’s central commercial district as Libyan Army forces tried to dislodge Islamic militants in control of the area. Libyan TV reported that the Red Crescent evacuated its headquarters due to the heavy fighting.

Second, today, under the Sign category of THE TURMOIL IN ISRAEL & THE MIDDLE EAST — According to The Times of Israel, Having consolidated its fighting units under a unified command two months ago, the Free Syrian Army on the Golan Heights is coaxing Islamist opposition forces to leave the border area with Israel and fight the Assad regime further east. According to a civilian opposition activist, the newly-formed Unified Free Syrian Army has managed in recent weeks to convince radical elements — including members of the Al-Qaeda-affiliated Al-Nusra Front — to leave Syrian villages located just miles away from the Israeli border. The Al-Nusra members have abandoned the villages and moved eastwards to fight in the western outskirts of Damascus.

Third, today, under the Sign category of WARS & RUMORS OF WARS — According to Ynet News, Egypt’s most active militant group has sworn allegiance to the Islamic State. The organization had previously said that it sought inspiration and advice from the Islamic State, the radical al-Qaeda offshoot that has taken over swathes of Iraq and Syria, drawing US-led airstrikes as it tries to remake the map of the Middle East. Now, it has released a statement saying that they are joining the so-called caliphate. The statement came amid a report that Egypt and its allies in the Gulf — Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Kuwait — were discussing the creation of a military pact to take on Islamic militants, with the possibility of a joint force to intervene around the Middle East.

Fourth, today, under the Sign category of THE TURMOIL IN ISRAEL & THE MIDDLE EAST — According to The Times of Israel, a Kuwaiti newspaper is reporting that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held a secret meeting in Amman with Jordan’s King Abdullah to discuss rising tensions over the Temple Mount. The two leaders met to discuss resolving the ongoing unrest in Jerusalem, which has seen waves of violence centered around the holy site. The report added that Netanyahu had agreed to temporarily close the site to Jewish visits in the coming days, and to increase coordination with the Islamic organization managing the site.

Fifth, today, under the Sign category of DISTRESS AMONG NATIONS — According to Israel National News, International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) director Yu-ki-ya A-man-o has revealed that Iran is refusing to answer questions about whether or not its nuclear program has included activities to build a nuclear bomb. Amano said that his agency is waiting for information on “possible military dimensions,” which Iranian President Has-san Rou-ha-ni has promised to deliver — and never gotten around to doing. The IAEA head said that at this time, “We cannot provide assurance that all material is for peaceful purposes.”

The prophetic passage of Scripture we are looking at today is Genesis 12:7 which reads: “And the Lord appeared unto Abram, and said, Unto thy seed will I give this land: and there builded he an altar unto the Lord, who appeared unto him.”

Allow me to share with you some commentary on this passage from the Popular Bible Prophecy Commentary, edited by Tim LaHaye and Ed Hindson.

The first expansion of the Abrahamic Covenant’s promises is contained in Genesis 12:7. Following Abraham’s arrival in the land of Canaan, the Lord promises that Abraham’s descendants would inherit the land as a gift. Abraham later identifies this promise as a divine oath, a solemn unconditional guarantee.

The second expansion of the Abrahamic Covenant’s promises is contained in Genesis 13:14-17. After Lot departs for richer pastures, the Lord again appears to Abraham and reconfirms His intention to give the entirety of Canaan to Abraham’s descendants. While not providing specifics concerning the borders, the Lord tells Abraham that the land in every direction belongs to him and to his descendants. Abraham is divinely encouraged to expand his depth of view by walking the length and breadth of the land. One expansion of the covenant promises relayed here is the revelation of Abraham’s personal possession of the land, which had previously only been promised to his descendants. Another expansion is the eternal duration of his offspring’s ownership of the land. The Lord also defines the parameters of what He had previously meant by the promise of a great nation in Genesis 12:2.

If the Lord tarries His coming and we live, we will continue looking at this prophecy in our next broadcast / podcast.

Our second coming quote for today is from C.S. Lewis. He said, “The doctrine of the second coming has failed, so far as we are concerned, if it does not make us realize that at every moment of every year in our lives Donne’s question, ‘What if this present night were the world’s last night?’ is equally relevant.”

If you are not ready for the return of Jesus Christ, may I encourage you to get ready today by receiving Him as your Savior. John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” Just believe in your heart that Jesus Christ died for your sins, was buried, and rose from the dead by the power of God for you so that you can live eternally with Him. Pray and ask Him to come into your heart today, and He will. Romans 10:13 says, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

Keep looking up for your redemption draweth nigh. Let us join in the prayer of John the Revelator — “Even so, come, Lord Jesus.” God bless you.
