It’s not just current San Francisco 49ers who seem a little fed up with coach Jim Harbaugh. One of the franchise’s greatest legends is also on the anti-Harbaugh bandwagon.
In a number of interviews and appearances this week, Hall of Fame wide receiver Jerry Rice has questioned Harbaugh’s coaching mentality, status in the locker room and future in San Francisco. Most definitively, he told SI’s Pro Football Now of his thoughts on Harbaugh’s job status past this season:
“I think he’s gone.”
On Tuesday night, Rice spoke at a charity event and discussed some of the fissures in the locker room, according to Newsday.
“I have heard some complaints from some players that he likes to try to coach with the collegiate mentality, and that’s just not going to work in the NFL.”
He echoed those sentiments while speaking with LaVar Arrington and Terrell Davis on NFL Network:
