First, today, let’s look at some Signs of His Coming in the news.

The disciples asked Jesus in Matthew 24:3, “What shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?” Jesus Christ then went on to give them (and us) clear signs that show us when we can begin to expect to see the coming of the Lord and the end of the world. Those signs include:

1. the appearance of false Christs and false prophets
2. wars and rumors of wars
3. famines
4. pestilences (fatal epidemic diseases)
5. earthquakes in divers (various) places
6. increased persecution of believers
7. the Gospel being preached in all the world
8. signs and great wonders in the heavens (involving the sun, moon, stars, and planetary movements)
9. distress and perplexity among people
10. increased violence “as in the days of Noah”
11. increased homosexuality and sexual immorality “as it was in the days of Lot”
12. the rise of “Gog and Magog” (which many Bible scholars believe refers to Russia)
13. the rise of the “kings of the east” (which many Bible scholars believe refers to China)
14. increase in knowledge (science and technology)
15. apostasy in the church
16. interest in a unified world government to bring about global peace
17. interest in the rebuilding of the Temple in Jerusalem

The Bible also speaks of other signs which will be evident in “perilous times” in Second Timothy 3. Those signs are people being:

18. selfish
19. covetous
20. boasters
21. proud
22. blasphemers
23. disobedient to parents
24. unthankful
25. unholy
26. without natural affection
27. trucebreakers
28. false accusers
29. incontinent
30. fierce
31. despisers of those that are good
32. traitors
33. heady
34. high-minded
35. lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God
36. having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof.

Other signs of the times which have been gleaned from Scripture include:
37. scoffers who mock of Christ’s return
38. movement toward a one-world religion
39. outpouring of the Holy Spirit
40. outbreak of demonic and occultic activity
41. re-establishment of Israel
42. Arab hostility toward Israel
43. re-unification of Europe
44. movement toward a one-world economy

Looking at world events through the lens of the Word of God, let’s look at some headlines from today’s news that point to the second coming of the Lord Jesus Christ.

First, today, under the Sign category of DISTRESS AMONG NATIONS — According to Agence France-Presse (AFP), Global powers wrestling to hammer out a ground-breaking deal with Iran to curb its nuclear ambitions are moving complex talks into high gear with a “critical” three weeks left for an accord. The main players — US Secretary of State John Kerry, his Iranian counterpart Mohammad Zarif and outgoing EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton — will crisscross the globe ahead of the November 24 deadline seeking to narrow the gaps. Kerry has warned the coming weeks will finally reveal whether the Islamic Republic is truly prepared to make the tough decisions needed to curb its suspect nuclear program and win a lifting of international sanctions.

Second, today, under the Sign category of THE TURMOIL IN ISRAEL & THE MIDDLE EAST — According to the Jerusalem Post, a senior Israeli security official estimated that rioting in the capital could continue for several more weeks, if not months. The official told Israel’s Channel 10 News that the government does not believe there is an order on high or an organized hierarchy behind recent disturbances in east Jerusalem. Following calls by Fatah to hold a “day of rage” in Jerusalem and the West Bank, entrance to the Temple Mount was limited to men over the age of 50, while women of all ages were permitted access. Police said security was bolstered in the capital with an increased police presence in the Old City to deter more violence.

Third, today, under the Sign category of WARS & RUMORS OF WARS — According to the Associated Press, Canadian warplanes involved in the US-led bombing campaign against militants in Iraq have launched their first airstrikes since deploying to the region. A statement from Defense Minister Rob Nicholson’s office on Sunday said two fighter jets attacked targets in the vicinity of Fallujah with laser-guided bombs and safely returned to their base in Kuwait. Canada has deployed 10 aircraft as its contribution to the bombing campaign against the Islamic State group, which has seized large parts of Iraq and Syria. About 600 airmen and airwomen are involved.

Fourth, today, under the Sign category of DISTRESS AMONG NATIONS — According to Radio Free Europe, Ukraine’s military has accused Moscow of launching an “intensive deployment of military equipment and personnel” from Russian territory into parts of eastern Ukraine. The charge came as residents of separatist-controlled areas were voting in controversial elections on November 2. Reporters near Donetsk said they saw a military column of about 20 trucks, some carrying anti-aircraft guns, heading toward the government-held airport. Several other Western media outlets also reported witnessing heavy movement of troops near Donetsk. The Ukrainian government, the United States, the European Union, other Western countries, and the UN say the elections are illegitimate and will not be recognized.

Fifth, today, under the Sign category of THE TURMOIL IN ISRAEL & THE MIDDLE EAST — According to the Jerusalem Post, Palestinian Authority president Mahmoud Abbas said that if Israel “makes peace,” the rest of the Middle East will immediately begin diplomatic relations with Israel. He said in a television interview, “I say to the people of Israel: If you make peace with us, we will come, as will 57 other Arab and Muslim countries that would immediately begin to recognize Israel and normalize relations.” Abbas also responded to Hamas’ encouragement of a third, violent intifada. He said, “We are not calling for an intifada… These are our holy places and we want to keep them quiet.”

The Bible says in John 6:54: “Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day.”

Now, it’s time for Prophecy Bootcamp.

Prophecy Bootcamp is where we deal with the basics of prophecy, the Second Coming of Christ, and what will happen in the future according to the Bible. Our aim here is not to make predictions but to help you get prepared by understanding how things will unfold in the end times.

Our topic for today is titled “Where Are We Headed? (Part 2)” from Dr. Ed Hindson’s book “Revelation: Unlocking the Future”.

In our last broadcast, we left off talking about the “kai-meter” pattern in the book of Revelation. Some examples of the kai-meter pattern are as follows:

Revelation 1:11: Write in a book what you see, and send it to the seven churches:
— to Ephesus
— and to Smyrna
— and to Pergamum
— and to Thyatira
— and to Sardis
— and to Philadelphia
— and to Laodicea.

Another one is found in Revelation 5:12: The Lamb who was slain is worthy to receive
and riches
and wisdom
and might
and honor
and glory
and blessing.

In these examples, six “ands” (kai’s) tie together a list of seven items. Sometimes the text uses seven “ands” to tie together a list of seven. For example:

Revelation 6:12-14 demonstrates this as follows:
And I beheld when he had opened the sixth seal,
and there was a great earthquake;
and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair,
and the moon became as blood;
And the stars of heaven fell unto the earth,
as a fig tree casteth her untimely figs, when she is shaken of a mighty wind.
And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together;
and every mountain and island were moved out of their places.

Revelation 11:12-13 demonstrates this as follows:
Come up hither.
And they ascended up to heaven in a cloud;
and their enemies beheld them.
And the same hour was there a great earthquake,
and the tenth part of the city fell,
and in the earthquake were slain of men seven thousand:
and the remnant were affrighted,
and gave glory to the God of heaven.

The kaimeters can also tie together units of two, three, four, five, six, ten, or twelve. The use of and (kai) is the literary cement that hold the Revelation together and keeps it moving. One cannot read this book without being swept up in a sense of movement. The pattern reads like this:

This happened,
and that happened,
and then this,
and then that, etc.

It is this constant sense of progression that clearly indicates the Revelation is moving the reader toward a final climax. One cannot read this book and mentally stand still. The reader will sense, consciously or unconsciously, that he or she is moving through a series of events that appear like instantaneous flashes on a video screen. These glimpses of the future are intended to keep us moving toward the final consummation of human history. The closing chapters actually fast-forward us into eternity itself!

Lord willing, we will continue looking at this topic on our next broadcast/podcast.

In closing, let’s consider what God wants you and me to do in light of His Second Coming.

Jesus Christ said in Luke 19:13 to “Occupy till I come.” In light of that, we are continuing our Bible study series on the books of First & Second Thessalonians which Paul wrote to believers who had concerns about the Second Coming of Jesus Christ, and what they should do as they waited. This section is titled “Comfort at the Grave (Part 10)” from the book “Waiting on the Second Coming” by Ray C. Stedman.

The second sound Paul connects with the initial appearance of Jesus Christ is “the voice of the archangel.” The only angel in the Bible called an archangel is Michael. Though Gabriel is a great angel, he is never referred to as an archangel. In the first two verses of Daniel 12 we read that an angel said to Daniel, “At that time Michael, the great prince who protects your people [Israel] will arise”; Michael is always connected with Israel. Michael shall stand up and then there shall be a resurrection; Daniel was told that those who are in the tombs will come forth. Also, the living nation of Israel will be summoned to a new relationship with God. Details of this event concern the 144,000 Israelites, twelve thousand from each of the twelve tribes of Israel, who are described in Revelation 7 and 14. These will be called to follow Jesus wherever He goes during the time of His presence on earth. He will be invisible to the world but visible to them. That all begins when Jesus returns for His church and the archangel calls Israel into a new relationship with the Lord.

If the Lord tarries His coming and we live, we will continue looking at this topic in our next broadcast/podcast.

Remember the words of the Lord in Matthew 24:42: “Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come.” Matthew 24:44 says, “Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.”

If you are not ready for the return of Jesus Christ, may I encourage you to get ready today by receiving Him as your Savior. John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” Just believe in your heart that Jesus Christ died for your sins, was buried, and rose from the dead by the power of God for you so that you can live eternally with Him. Pray and ask Him to come into your heart today, and He will. Romans 10:13 says, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

Keep looking up for your redemption draweth nigh. Let us join in the prayer of John the Revelator — “Even so, come, Lord Jesus.” God bless you.
