Let’s take a quick look at today’s prophecy-related headlines which point towards the second coming of the Lord Jesus Christ and the end of the world as we know it.
First, today, under the Sign category of DISTRESS AMONG NATIONS — According to Reuters, NATO aircraft tracked Russian strategic bombers over the Atlantic and Black Sea, and sorties of fighters over the Baltic in what the western alliance called an unusual burst of activity at a tense time in east-west relations.
NATO said its jets had intercepted four groups of Russian aircraft in about 24 hours. A spokesman said there had been no violation of NATO airspace — as there was last week when a Russian spy plane briefly crossed Estonia’s border. But such high numbers of sorties in one day were rare in recent years
Second, today, under the Sign category of WARS & RUMORS OF WAR — According to NBC News, Top U.S. and British counterterrorism officials said that the growing number and variety of foreign fighters streaming into Syria is unprecedented in recent history. Randy Blake, a senior strategic advisor in the U.S. Office of the Director of National Intelligence, said, “The rate of travel into Syria [by foreign fighters] is greater than we saw into Afghanistan prior to 9/11. It’s greater than anything we’ve seen in Afghanistan, Yemen, Somalia, Iraq, or anything that we’ve seen in the last 10-year period.”
Third, today, under the Sign category of INCREASE IN NATURAL DISASTERS — According to Mashable, Iceland’s Bar-dar-bunga volcano has now emitted the most lava of any volcano in that geologically active country since at least 1947, and continues with no sign of stopping. The volcano is also emitting clouds of toxic sulfur dioxide gases, which have made it all the way to Europe at times. The eruption is taking place in an old lava field, and according to National Geographic, the volcano has now vaulted so much molten rock to the surface that it would fill at least 740 Empire State Buildings.
Fourth, today, under the Sign category of THE TURMOIL IN ISRAEL & THE MIDDLE EAST — According to The Jerusalem Post, a study conducted by military experts for Business Insider ranks Israel’s military as the most powerful in the Middle East, while its air force ranks second to none globally. The business and technology news website ranked the 15 strongest armies in the region while noting the size of the countries’ respective defense budgets as well as the latest geopolitical tumult and its impact on military strength. Chris Harmer, a senior naval analyst at the Institute for the Study of War, said, “Pilot to pilot, airframe to airframe, the Israeli air force is the best in the world.”
Fifth, today, under the Sign category of WARS & RUMORS OF WAR — According to The Washington Post, a small group of Free Syrian Army fighters moved across the Turkish border Wednesday into the embattled Syrian town of Kobani to reinforce a Kurdish militia struggling against an Islamic State offensive, ahead of an expected convoy of Iraqi Kurdish peshmerga forces. The two-track movement of weapons and fighters marked a long-awaited boost for Kobani’s Syrian Kurdish defenders, who remain outgunned by Islamic State militants despite being aided by intensified U.S. airstrikes. The deployment also highlights a complicated struggle for influence over the Kurdish population of northeastern Syria that has long plagued efforts to unite against the threat posed by the extremists.

The prophetic passage of Scripture we are looking at today is Genesis 9:25-27 which reads: “And he said, Cursed be Canaan; a servant of servants shall he be unto his brethren. And he said, Blessed be the Lord God of Shem; and Canaan shall be his servant. God shall enlarge Japheth, and he shall dwell in the tents of Shem; and Canaan shall be his servant.”
Allow me to share with you some commentary on this passage from the Popular Bible Prophecy Commentary, edited by Tim LaHaye and Ed Hindson.
Some time after the Flood, Noah’s son, Ham, exhibits vulgar disrespect to his father. This prompts Noah to a harsh reprisal of prophetic judgment against Ham’s future descendants, the Canaanites. The Canaanites would be subservient to the descendants of both Shem and Japheth. This subjugation of the Canaanites is, indeed, seen throughout Old Testament history (one such example of this is found in Joshua 8:27). In contrast to the cursing of Ham’s descendants, Noah subsequently blesses the descendants of his other two sons, Shem and Japheth, who would remain in close geographic proximity and maintain friendly relations. The initial descendants of Noah’s three sons and their geographic dispersal is recorded in Genesis 10:1-32.
If the Lord tarries His coming and we live, we will continue looking at this prophecy in our next broadcast / podcast.
Our second coming quote for today is from Alexander Maclaren. He said, “The primitive church thought more about the Second Coming of Jesus Christ than about death or about heaven. The early Christians were looking not for a cleft in the ground called a grave but for a cleavage in the sky called Glory. They were watching not for the undertaker but for the uppertaker.”
If you are not ready for the return of Jesus Christ, may I encourage you to get ready today by receiving Him as your Savior. John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” Just believe in your heart that Jesus Christ died for your sins, was buried, and rose from the dead by the power of God for you so that you can live eternally with Him. Pray and ask Him to come into your heart today, and He will. Romans 10:13 says, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
Keep looking up for your redemption draweth nigh. Let us join in the prayer of John the Revelator — “Even so, come, Lord Jesus.” God bless you.
