Let’s take a quick look at today’s prophecy-related headlines which point towards the second coming of the Lord Jesus Christ and the end of the world as we know it.

First, today, under the Sign category of EARTHQUAKES IN DIVERS PLACES — According to NBC News, The annual number of “great” earthquakes nearly tripled over the last decade, providing a reminder to Americans that unruptured faults like those in the northwest United States might be due for a Big One. A report at the annual meeting of the Geological Society of America this week said that between 2004 and 2014, 18 earthquakes with magnitudes of 8.0 or more rattled subduction zones around the globe. That’s an increase of 265 percent over the average rate of the previous century, which saw 71 great quakes.

Second, today, under the Sign category of WARS & RUMORS OF WAR — According to Israel National News, Thousands of civilians on Sunday fled their homes in a battered district of northern Lebanon’s Tripoli, taking advantage of an informal truce in fighting between the army and Islamist militants. The lull comes after three days of heavy clashes in Tripoli, the country’s second biggest city. The coastal city has seen repeated clashes between Sunni fighters sympathetic to rebels in neighboring Syria and Al-a-wites loyal to the Damascus regime. The Sunnis have recently focused their attacks on the army over its alleged support for Damascus ally Hezbollah.

Third, today, under the Sign category of WARS & RUMORS OF WAR — According to The Tribune-Review, the Obama administration offered a very mixed assessment of progress in the U.S.-led campaign to degrade and defeat the Islamic State, with no serious ground offensive against the militant group likely for at least a year and little sign that the effort to stanch its flow of money has succeeded. In separate briefings, representatives of the Central Command in Tampa and the Treasury Department in Washington described only incremental progress in the fight against the Islamic State. A key Treasury Department official offered details of Islamic State funding that suggested the organization likely has gained $120 million in oil revenue and perhaps $20 million from kidnapping ransoms despite the continuing air assault on ISIS’s infrastructure.

Fourth, today, under the Sign category of DISTRESS AMONG NATIONS — According to Russia Today, citing the country’s foreign intelligence agency, a German newspaper has reported that Islamic State militants in northern Iraq have modern portable air defense systems (MANPADS) that are capable of shooting down a passenger plane. These light-weight surface-to-air missile systems can be fired from the shoulder and operated by one person. The report said, “Unlike other air defense weapons, MANPADS are easy to use [and] barely-trained militiamen can fire the weapon accurately,” adding that the weapons are especially dangerous to landing or taking off aircrafts.

Fifth, today, under the Sign category of EARTHQUAKES IN DIVERS PLACES — According to The Greek Reporter, a 5.2-magnitude earthquake struck Western Greece early Saturday with no reports of victims or major damage. The tremor struck at 3:16 am, with its epicentre 12 miles from the western town of Arta. Earthquakes have historically caused widespread damage not only in Crete, but also across central and southern Greece, Cyprus, Sicily and other neighboring regions.

The prophetic passage of Scripture we are looking at today is Genesis 8:21-22 which reads: “And the Lord smelled a sweet savour; and the Lord said in his heart, I will not again curse the ground any more for man’s sake; for the imagination of man’s heart is evil from his youth; neither will I again smite any more every thing living, as I have done. While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.”

Allow me to share with you some commentary on this passage from the Popular Bible Prophecy Commentary, edited by Tim LaHaye and Ed Hindson.

Some 371 days after first entering the ark, Noah, his family, and the animals emerge. Noah’s first recorded action on dry land is to erect “an altar to the Lord,” on which he makes a sacrifice. This prompts the Lord’s articulation of the central promise of the newly established Noahic Covenant to never again “curse the ground” or “destroy every living thing” through means of a flood. The “everlasting covenant” is made by God without condition, not only with Noah, but also universally, “with every living creature.” The sign of the covenant is, of course, the rainbow. The promises of this covenant are still in effect today.

If the Lord tarries His coming and we live, we will continue looking at this prophecy in our next broadcast / podcast.

Our second coming quote for today is from Oswald Chambers. He said, “The only way to wait for the Second Coming is to watch that you do what you should do, so that when he comes is a matter of indifference. It is the attitude of a child, certain that God knows what he is about. When the Lord does come, it will be as natural as breathing. God never does anything hysterical, and he never produces hysterics.”

If you are not ready for the return of Jesus Christ, may I encourage you to get ready today by receiving Him as your Savior. John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” Just believe in your heart that Jesus Christ died for your sins, was buried, and rose from the dead by the power of God for you so that you can live eternally with Him. Pray and ask Him to come into your heart today, and He will. Romans 10:13 says, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

Keep looking up for your redemption draweth nigh. Let us join in the prayer of John the Revelator — “Even so, come, Lord Jesus.” God bless you.
