The simple purpose of this broadcast is to encourage you, exhort you, and motivate you to share your faith in Jesus Christ with those who are lost around you. Even though we will share some instructions on how to witness for the Lord from time to time, we believe that most Christians do not need to learn how to witness for the Lord, they just need to go and do it; so our aim is more motivational than instructional.

Our soul winning passage from the Word of God today is Matthew 25:40 which reads: “And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.”

Allow me to share with you some important insights regarding this Scripture from David Guzik’s Commentaries on the Bible:

In this parable, the nations are judged on the basis of their treatment of the least of these My brethren. Are the brethren mentioned here Jesus’ fellow Jews, or are they Christians? Perhaps Jesus has both in view.

Both those who are found guilty (the goats, on the left hand) and those who are declared innocent (the sheep, on the right hand) are surprised, wondering when they helped or neglected Jesus.

The answer is simple: they helped or neglected Jesus when they helped or neglected the least of His brethren.

Because the righteous were not aware that they were helping Jesus when they helped the least of His brethren, it shows that their motives were pure. It was a simple response of love from the heart.

The charge against these lost ones does not concern any flagrant violation of a moral code, but their indifferent attitude toward Jesus (and His people). Their indifference seals their doom. Throughout this chapter, the point has been emphasized: the price of indifference is too high to pay.

  • We cannot afford to be indifferent towards Jesus and His return.
  • We can’t afford to be indifferent towards the Holy Spirit who makes us ready for the return of Jesus.
  • We can’t afford to be indifferent towards the resources that God gives us.
  • We can’t afford to be indifferent towards the needy people all around us.
  • We can’t afford to be indifferent towards lost humanity that will stand in judgment.

Our soul winning quote today is from Mohandas Gandhi. He said: “You must be the change you wish to see in the world.”

Our soul winning devotional is part 62 of our series titled “What Evangelism Is” from Dave Earley and David Wheeler.

Evangelism Is…Being the Change You Wish to See In the World

Young Professionals Are Being the Change
A group of young professionals and graduate students in Lynchburg, Virginia, call themselves “Life Group.” They want to make a difference.

Recently more than a dozen young adults from Life Group gathered on a cold and rainy day to tear down ceilings, gut interior walls, and to clean up a yard filled with trash and debris from years of neglect. After hours of labor, they shared Christ with the appreciative homeowner. She was delighted to find people who cared for others in need.

As she told of her failing health and a near-death experience, the door was opened to share the gospel. Eventually one of the young adults asked her, “If you died then, where would you have spent eternity?” The group shifted gears from being a group of humanitarians to a team of caring evangelists. Although the woman knew the group had come from a local church, she was now connecting the dots between their honest compassion for her physical well-being and the loving message of Christ and the cross.

This type of ministry in action breaks down the walls of resistance in communities everywhere. The homeless are being fed and prison inmates are receiving love from visitors committed to sharing the gospel in both word and deed. Our communities are filled with hurting people, especially in times of financial recession. We can make a difference if we will get to know our neighbors, the people we work with, and anyone outside of our Christian comfort zones.

Angel Tree
Every Christmas thousands of churches and local businesses collect gifts for children of incarcerated parents through a ministry of Prison Fellowship called “Angel Tree.” One church who regularly participated in Angel Tree decided to do something extra for the kids. Instead of just collecting gifts from church members and their families, this local fellowship brought a group of volunteers together and created a carnival-like atmosphere for the hurting children. Church members provided special events for the day’s festivities.

Children were brought to a location where they could play games, have their faces painted, shoot basketball hoops, and eat lots of goodies. They also received Christmas gifts based on their requests. By doing this, the church was able to personalize their love for the children, the foster parents, and their incarcerated parents. It was as if Jesus physically walked into the prison and hugged everyone in His path!

In our next broadcast, we will continue looking at why evangelism is…Being the Change You Wish to See In the World.

Dear friend, if you do not know the Lord Jesus Christ as your Savior, may I encourage you to get to know Him today. John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” Just believe in your heart that Jesus Christ died for your sins, was buried, and rose from the dead by the power of God for you so that you can be a part of the church in this life and in the life to come. Pray and ask Him to come into your heart today, and He will. Romans 10:13 says, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

Until next time,

Keep the soul winner’s fire!
