Let’s take a quick look at today’s prophecy-related headlines which point towards the second coming of the Lord Jesus Christ and the end of the world as we know it.
First, today, under the Sign category of INCREASE IN VIOLENCE — According to Reuters, a gunman attacked Canada’s parliament on Wednesday, with gunfire erupting near where Prime Minister Stephen Harper was speaking, and a soldier was fatally shot at a nearby war memorial, stunning the Canadian capital. The gunman in the parliament building was shot dead, and Harper was safely removed in incidents that may have been linked to Islamic militants. Witness accounts indicated the man who shot the soldier guarding the National War Memorial in central Ottawa, went on to attack the parliament building minutes later. Canadian police said however they could not “at this point” confirm it was the same person.
Second, today, under the Sign category of THE TURMOIL IN ISRAEL & THE MIDDLE EAST — According to the Times of Israel, a three-month-old girl was killed Wednesday afternoon and eight others were injured when a car crashed into a crowd at a light rail station in Jerusalem in what officials said was a terrorist attack. The suspect, identified by an Israeli official as a member of the terror group Hamas, attempted to flee the scene on foot but was shot and wounded by police. The baby, whose parents are reportedly American citizens, died at a hospital several hours after the attack.
Third, today, under the Sign category of WARS & RUMORS OF WARS — According to The Associated Press, Syrian President Bashar Assad is seizing an opportunity presented by the US-led coalition’s war against the Islamic State to pursue a withering air and ground campaign against more mainstream rebels elsewhere in the country, trying to recapture areas considered more crucial to the survival of his government. As US and allied jets swoop freely over towns and cities under control of extremists in northern Syria, the Syrian army has scaled back its air activity over areas of ISIS control. Instead, Assad’s troops are now focusing their energies on the country’s two largest cities, Damascus and Aleppo.
Fourth, today, under the Sign category of THE TURMOIL IN ISRAEL & THE MIDDLE EAST — According to The Times of Israel, gunmen in the Sinai Peninsula opened fire on an IDF patrol near the Egyptian border on Wednesday afternoon, injuring two soldiers. Both the IDF and the Egyptian army were sending troops to the area amid ongoing exchanges. Egyptian security sources said a radical Islamist group was behind the attack.
Fifth, today, under the Sign category of THE TURMOIL IN ISRAEL & THE MIDDLE EAST — According to The Times of Israel, Jordan’s King Abdullah II and other Jordanian government officials have been working to ensure that the Knesset does not ratify a bill that would allow Jews to pray at the Temple Mount. Jordan’s Ambassador to the Palestinian territories claimed that Israeli lawmakers were attempting to pass a resolution which would effectively divide the compound between Muslims and Jews. He said, “Jordan’s foreign minister has sent strongly-worded messages to foreign ministers of member states of the UN Security Council and to the UN demanding an end to the systematic assaults on the Al-Aqsa Mosque and on [Muslim] worshipers.”

The prophetic passage of Scripture we are looking at today is Genesis 5:27-29 which reads: “And all the days of Methuselah were nine hundred sixty and nine years: and he died. And Lamech lived an hundred eighty and two years, and begat a son: And he called his name Noah, saying, This same shall comfort us concerning our work and toil of our hands, because of the ground which the Lord hath cursed.”
Allow me to share with you some commentary on this passage from the Popular Bible Prophecy Commentary, edited by Tim LaHaye and Ed Hindson.
Early humanity’s continued messianic expectation is again evident with the birth of Noah. Lamech, Noah’s father, has great yet incorrect expectations of his son, mistakenly identifying Noah as the divinely promised yet shadowy messianic figure. While not meeting Lamech’s hope of providing mankind “rest from our work…from the ground which the Lord has cursed,” Noah would, nonetheless, prove a savior of sorts, representing humanity’s last, best hope within his generation.
If the Lord tarries His coming and we live, we will continue looking at this prophecy in our next broadcast / podcast.
Our second coming quote for today is from Vance Havner. He said, “Some of the saints are SINGING about the Second Coming, but it is one thing just to sing the national anthem during the war and quite another to go into battle. The best evidence that the Lord’s return has really gotten hold of us is when we occupy till He comes, do business for God, and buy up the opportunities, because the days are evil.”
If you are not ready for the return of Jesus Christ, may I encourage you to get ready today by receiving Him as your Savior. John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” Just believe in your heart that Jesus Christ died for your sins, was buried, and rose from the dead by the power of God for you so that you can live eternally with Him. Pray and ask Him to come into your heart today, and He will. Romans 10:13 says, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
Keep looking up for your redemption draweth nigh. Let us join in the prayer of John the Revelator — “Even so, come, Lord Jesus.” God bless you.
