Let’s take a quick look at today’s prophecy-related headlines which point towards the second coming of the Lord Jesus Christ and the end of the world as we know it.
First, today, under the Sign category of WARS & RUMORS OF WARS — According to The Times of London, Islamic State fighters have retreated from parts of Kobani in the face of fierce resistance from the town’s Kurdish defenders and aerial bombardment from coalition jets. In the first sign that the momentum of the allied air campaign has swung against the jihadists, the Kurdish fighters trying to hold the town have been able to retake some territory. The battle is strategically important, as the town’s capture would give ISIS uninterrupted control of vast swathes of the Syrian side of the Turkish border.
Second, today, under the Sign category of WARS & RUMORS OF WARS — According to the Associated Press, Egypt deepened its involvement in the fight against Islamist militias who have taken over key parts of Libya on Wednesday, with officials saying Egyptian warplanes have bombed their positions in the eastern city of Benghazi. The bombing was reportedly part of an Egyptian-led campaign against the militiamen that will eventually involve Libyan ground troops recently trained by Egyptian forces.
Third, today, under the Sign category of DISTRESS AMONG NATIONS — According to Reuters, the number of times Japanese fighter jets scrambled to ward off Russian military aircraft more than doubled in the last six months, amid diplomatic tensions between the two countries. The increased activity in Japan’s north also comes as the armed forces pivot their focus southwards towards China, the assertive Asian giant which is seen in Tokyo as the more immediate challenge. According to government figures released this week, instances of fighter jets scrambling into the skies above Japan jumped by 73 percent in the six months through September, led by sorties confronting Russian bombers and spy planes.
Fourth, today, under the Sign category of EARTHQUAKES IN DIVERS PLACES — According to LiveScience, in the Bulletin of the Seismological Society of America, researchers have stated that four faults in the San Francisco Bay Area have built up enough seismic strain (stored energy) to unleash destructive earthquakes. The quartet includes the Hayward Fault, the Rodgers Creek Fault, the Green Valley Fault and the Calaveras Fault. While all are smaller pieces of California’s San Andreas Fault system, which is more than 800 miles long, the four faults are a serious threat because they directly underlie cities.
Fifth, today, under the Sign category of DISTRESS AMONG NATIONS — According to Reuters, President Vladimir Putin warned Washington that a spat between nuclear powers over the Ukraine crisis could threaten global stability and said that Russia would not be “blackmailed” by sanctions. Taking a tough line on the eve of talks with the president of Ukraine, Putin said the sanctions imposed by the United States and the European Union were hindering peace moves. He said, “We hope that our partners will realise the recklessness of attempts to blackmail Russia, [and] will remember the risks that a spat between major nuclear powers incurs for strategic stability.”

The prophetic passage of Scripture we are looking at today is Genesis 3:15 which reads: “And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.”
Allow me to share with you some commentary on this passage from the Popular Bible Prophecy Commentary, edited by Tim LaHaye and Ed Hindson.
The Lord declares war on the motivating cause of Edenic sin, the serpent (Satan), who is identified by the apostle John as “the serpent of old.” In the Lord’s curse on the serpent, we see an initial glimpse of the divine plan for humanity’s redemption. This passage contains far more than the mere origin of the antagonistic relationship between mankind and snakes. It is the theological explanation for the conflict between good and evil. A descendant of Eve would be born who would successfully wage holy war against Satan and his offspring. Although both holy warrior and evil adversary will sustain punishing injury (to heel and head, respectively) in the conflict, the damage dealt to Satan will prove fatal. The bruising of the Savior’s heel is especially insightful in relation to the bruised heels and torn flesh of crucifixion victims. Although the identity of God’s chosen warrior is shrouded in mystery, this individual will be the offspring of a woman — a prophetic reference to the virgin birth of Christ.
The New Testament clearly teaches that the Messiah’s resurrection will most assuredly signal the final victory over Satan. Indeed, the apostle Paul encourages the believers in Rome that God would shortly crush Satan underneath their feet.

Our second coming quote for today is from G. Campbell Morgan. He said, “To me the second coming is the perpetual light on the path which makes the present bearable. I never lay my head on the pillow without thinking that perhaps before the morning breaks, the final morning may have dawned. I never begin my work without thinking that He may interrupt my work and begin His own. This is now His word to all believing souls, ‘Till I come.’ We are not looking for death, we are looking for Him.”
If you are not ready for the return of Jesus Christ, may I encourage you to get ready today by receiving Him as your Savior. John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” Just believe in your heart that Jesus Christ died for your sins, was buried, and rose from the dead by the power of God for you so that you can live eternally with Him. Pray and ask Him to come into your heart today, and He will. Romans 10:13 says, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
