This broadcast is not about predictions, nor is it about setting dates as some foolishly have done, however it is all about preparation.

First, today, let’s look at some Signs of His Coming in the news.

The disciples asked Jesus in Matthew 24:3, “What shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?” Jesus Christ then went on to give them (and us) clear signs that show us when we can begin to expect to see the coming of the Lord and the end of the world. Those signs include:

1. the appearance of false Christs and false prophets
2. wars and rumors of wars
3. famines
4. pestilences (fatal epidemic diseases)
5. earthquakes in divers (various) places
6. increased persecution of believers
7. the Gospel being preached in all the world
8. signs and great wonders in the heavens (involving the sun, moon, stars, and planetary movements)
9. distress and perplexity among people
10. increased violence “as in the days of Noah”
11. increased homosexuality and sexual immorality “as it was in the days of Lot”
12. the rise of “Gog and Magog” (which many Bible scholars believe refers to Russia)
13. the rise of the “kings of the east” (which many Bible scholars believe refers to China)
14. increase in knowledge (science and technology)
15. apostasy in the church
16. interest in a unified world government to bring about global peace
17. interest in the rebuilding of the Temple in Jerusalem

The Bible also speaks of other signs which will be evident in “perilous times” in Second Timothy 3. Those signs are people being:

18. selfish
19. covetous
20. boasters
21. proud
22. blasphemers
23. disobedient to parents
24. unthankful
25. unholy
26. without natural affection
27. trucebreakers
28. false accusers
29. incontinent
30. fierce
31. despisers of those that are good
32. traitors
33. heady
34. high-minded
35. lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God
36. having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof.

Other signs of the times which have been gleaned from Scripture include:
37. scoffers who mock of Christ’s return
38. movement toward a one-world religion
39. outpouring of the Holy Spirit
40. outbreak of demonic and occultic activity
41. re-establishment of Israel
42. Arab hostility toward Israel
43. re-unification of Europe
44. movement toward a one-world economy

Looking at world events through the lens of the Word of God, let’s look at some headlines from today’s news that point to the second coming of the Lord Jesus Christ.

First, today, under the Sign category of EARTHQUAKES IN DIVERS PLACES — According to Agence France-Presse (AFP), thousands of rescuers were deployed in southwest China on Wednesday after a strong earthquake left one person dead and more than 300 injured, with over 100,000 displaced. The shallow 6.0 magnitude tremor hit late Tuesday in Yun-nan province, close to China’s borders with Myanmar and Laos. Officials reported seemingly ‘non-stop’ aftershocks and the collapse of ‘many houses.’

Second, today, under the Sign category of SIGNS IN THE HEAVENS — According to USA Today, the second and final total lunar eclipse of 2014 occurred early Wednesday morning, just before sunrise in the Eastern Time Zone and in the middle of the night on the West Coast. The moon appeared a coppery red and is being called a “blood” moon. Wednesday’s ‘blood moon’ coincides with the Jewish holiday of Sukkot, or the Feast of Tabernacles. The first ‘blood moon’ of 2014 appeared on April 14th at the beginning of the Jewish Passover. Two more ‘blood moons’ are expected in 2015; these will also appear on the Jewish Passover and Sukkot.

Third, today, under the Sign category of WARS & RUMORS OF WARS — According to Al-Tahrir News Network, the Shia militant group Hezbollah has claimed responsibility for an attack on Israeli soldiers stationed on the country’s border with Lebanon. Israeli officials say the attack resulted in the injury of two soldiers. The Israeli Defence Forces shelled Hezbollah targets in southern Lebanon following the border attack.

Fourth, today, under the Sign category of WARS & RUMORS OF WARS — According to Reuters, Indian and Pakistani troops traded heavy fire over their disputed border in Kashmir, killing at least 7 civilians and worsening tensions between the long-time rivals. The bullet and mortar exchange also left 18 civilians wounded on the Indian side. Indian authorities have evacuated nearly 5,000 villagers to government shelters. The violence is one of the worst violations of a 2003 cease-fire.

Fifth, today, under the Sign category of DISEASES & EPIDEMICS — According to The Week Magazine, Spanish authorities are investigating how a nurse became infected with the Ebola virus, as health workers blame substandard protective clothing and equipment for the spread of the disease. The nurse, her husband and three other people remain under quarantine in Madrid. Another 50 people she is believed to have been in contact with are also being monitored. A World Health Organization (WHO) advisor has warned that the disease can spread even in high level isolation units in Western hospitals. The WHO also said further cases of Ebola in Europe are “quite unavoidable”.

The Bible says in Acts 1:9-11: “And when [Jesus] had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight. And while they looked stedfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel; Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.”

Now, it’s time for Prophecy Bootcamp.

Prophecy Bootcamp is where we deal with the basics of prophecy, the Second Coming of Christ, and what will happen in the future according to the Bible. Our aim here is not to make predictions but to help you get prepared by understanding how things will unfold in the end times.

Our topic for today is titled “Keys to Unlocking the Future (Part 1)” from Dr. Ed Hindson’s book “Revelation: Unlocking the Future”.

The book of Revelation is the greatest book of apocalyptic literature ever written. It captivates our attention, stirs our imagination, and points us to our glorious future destiny. In this singular book of New Testament prophecy, the curtain is removed and the future is revealed for all to see. In a series of seven visions and numerous symbolic word pictures, the whole climax of human history is foretold in lucid detail.

The term revelation means to “unveil” or “uncover” that which was previously hidden. It translates the Greek term “apokalupsis.” Thus, the book is often known as the Apocalypse. It is the last book of the Bible and describes the final consummation of all things. In so doing, it serves as the capstone of the entire library of 66 books.

The general nature of the Revelation has been described as both apocalyptic and prophetic. Jewish apocalyptic literature can be seen in Isaiah 24-27, Ezekiel 38-39, Daniel 7-12, and Zechariah 9-14. Similar elements appear in the apocryphal books of Enoch, Baruch, Fourth Ezra, the Ascension of Isaiah, and the Apocalypse of Zephaniah. But none of those are quoted in the Revelation, which draws most of its symbolic imagery from the canonical Old Testament books. Apocalyptic writings may be distinguished by dreams or visions of end-times conflicts between the supernatural forces of good and evil. Persons or kingdoms are represented as animals; historical events take the form of natural phenomena. Colors and numbers have secret meanings. And everything points to the end of the world.

If the Lord tarries His coming and we live, we will continue looking at this topic in our next broadcast/podcast.

In closing, let’s consider what God wants you and me to do in light of His Second Coming.

Jesus Christ said in Luke 19:13 to “Occupy till I come.” In light of that, we are continuing our Bible study series on the books of First & Second Thessalonians which Paul wrote to believers who had concerns about the Second Coming of Jesus Christ, and what they should do as they waited. This section is titled “Handling Your Sex Drive (Part 7)” from the book “Waiting on the Second Coming” by Ray C. Stedman.

Paul says there is a dreadful price to pay for sexual immorality. First Thessalonians 4:6 says, “The Lord is the avenger of all such, as we also have forewarned you and testified.” God so loves His creation and so longs to see beautiful, whole people emerging from it that He will take drastic action when people violate His will. Silently, His judgment falls. Believer and unbeliever alike cannot escape the painful results of sinful choices. That is the law of inevitable consequences. If we choose to sin, there will be evil results. We cannot avoid them. We can be forgiven, but that does not change the results. Forgiveness restores the broken relationship and gives us strength to walk on in freedom in the future, but it does not change or eliminate the hurt of the past.

Every believer must face that unalterable fact. Throughout the Old Testament God sought to impart to Israel the fact that if they violated His laws, if they refused to hear His Word, ugly and terrible things would happen to them. Listen to these words from Deuteronomy 31 where God is speaking to Israel about their disobedience: “Then my anger shall be kindled against them in that day, and I will forsake them, and I will hide my face from them, and they shall be devoured, and many evils and troubles shall befall them; so that they will say in that day, Are not these evils come upon us, because our God is not among us?” That discipline took the form of famine, war, and disease. And the final judgment would be a breakup of families: “Thy sons and thy daughters shall be given unto another people, and thine eyes shall look, and fail with longing for them all the day long; and there shall be no might in thine hand.”

Isn’t that what has happened here in the United States, where one-half of all children today live with single parents? Families have been broken and children parceled out to strangers.

The final step, God said, would be “a despairing soul” (28:65), that awful depression of spirit that makes one want to commit suicide rather than to go on living. As a faithful father, Paul solemnly forewarned the Thessalonians that this would happen. God’s standards cannot be violated. He has ways of bringing His judgments to pass, and nobody can evade them.

If the Lord tarries His coming and we live, we will continue looking at this topic in our next broadcast/podcast.

Remember the words of the Lord in Matthew 24:42: “Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come.” Matthew 24:44 says, “Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.”

If you are not ready for the return of Jesus Christ, may I encourage you to get ready today by receiving Him as your Savior. John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” Just believe in your heart that Jesus Christ died for your sins, was buried, and rose from the dead by the power of God for you so that you can live eternally with Him. Pray and ask Him to come into your heart today, and He will. Romans 10:13 says, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

Keep looking up for your redemption draweth nigh. Let us join in the prayer of John the Revelator — “Even so, come, Lord Jesus.” God bless you.
