Jesus Christ is coming back soon and you need to be prepared. This broadcast is not about predictions, nor is it about setting dates as some foolishly have done, however it is all about preparation.

First, today, let’s look at some Signs of His Coming in the news.

The disciples asked Jesus in Matthew 24:3, “What shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?” Jesus Christ then went on to give them (and us) clear signs that show us when we can begin to expect to see the coming of the Lord and the end of the world. Those signs include:

1. the appearance of false Christs and false prophets
2. wars and rumors of wars
3. famines
4. pestilences (fatal epidemic diseases)
5. earthquakes in divers (various) places
6. increased persecution of believers
7. the Gospel being preached in all the world
8. signs and great wonders in the heavens (involving the sun, moon, stars, and planetary movements)
9. distress and perplexity among people
10. increased violence “as in the days of Noah”
11. increased homosexuality and sexual immorality “as it was in the days of Lot”
12. the rise of “Gog and Magog” (which many Bible scholars believe refers to Russia)
13. the rise of the “kings of the east” (which many Bible scholars believe refers to China)
14. increase in knowledge (science and technology)
15. apostasy in the church
16. interest in a unified world government to bring about global peace
17. interest in the rebuilding of the Temple in Jerusalem

The Bible also speaks of other signs which will be evident in “perilous times” in Second Timothy 3. Those signs are people being:

18. selfish
19. covetous
20. boasters
21. proud
22. blasphemers
23. disobedient to parents
24. unthankful
25. unholy
26. without natural affection
27. trucebreakers
28. false accusers
29. incontinent
30. fierce
31. despisers of those that are good
32. traitors
33. heady
34. high-minded
35. lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God
36. having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof.

Other signs of the times which have been gleaned from Scripture include:
37. scoffers who mock of Christ’s return
38. movement toward a one-world religion
39. outpouring of the Holy Spirit
40. outbreak of demonic and occultic activity
41. re-establishment of Israel
42. Arab hostility toward Israel
43. re-unification of Europe
44. movement toward a one-world economy

Looking at world events through the lens of the Word of God, let’s look at some headlines from today’s news that point to the second coming of the Lord Jesus Christ.

First, today, under the Sign category of WARS & RUMORS OF WARS — According to the Associated Press, a month-long cease-fire in Ukraine, looks like this: nine civilians killed, a Red Cross worker killed, and scores of others killed and wounded since the fighting was supposed to stop. Day after day, artillery shells and rockets fly overhead. Many explode in densely populated residential areas as the rebels have fought to dislodge Ukrainian government forces from the Donetsk airport just north of the city. The barrage has intensified this week, with shells hitting apartment buildings, a school, a bus stop, and the Red Cross office. The United Nations and the European Union voiced concern about the fighting that threatens to derail a fragile truce that has held in most other areas in eastern Ukraine since it was declared on Sept. 5. The deal has helped reduce hostilities, but fighting has continued at a few strategic locations.

Second, today, under the Sign category of THE TURMOIL IN ISRAEL & THE MIDDLE EAST — According to the Jerusalem Post, on the eve of the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Adha, Iran’s Supreme Leader urged the Islamic world to unite in waging war against the “the enemies of Islam, chief among them Israel.” He vowed that “the Zionist regime and its supporters will one day go into extinction.” He also blamed the west for the rise of ISIS which he said was intended to divide Muslims against each other.

Third, today, under the Sign category of DISEASES & EPIDEMICS — According to the New York Times, in Washington, a patient who had traveled to Nigeria and who was suspected of having Ebola was placed in isolation at Howard University Hospital. In New Haven, two Yale University graduate students plan to sequester themselves when they return this weekend from Liberia. And at Newark Liberty International Airport, a sick man who had just arrived from Brussels was rushed to a hospital amid concerns that he was showing Ebola-like symptoms. With fears about Ebola widening across the United States, federal health officials said that they were receiving an escalating number of reports of possible Ebola infection in the United States. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said it is assessing more than 100 possible cases.

Fourth, today, under the Sign category of THE TURMOIL IN ISRAEL & THE MIDDLE EAST — According to Reuters, the Prime Minister of Sweden said his government will recognize the state of Palestine in a move that will make it the first major European country to take the step. The U.S. State Department called Sweden’s decision “premature,” citing the need to first resolve final status issues. The UN General Assembly approved the de facto recognition of the sovereign state of Palestine in 2012 but the European Union and most EU countries have yet to give official recognition.

Fifth, today, under the Sign category of DISTRESS AMONG NATIONS — According to NBC News, Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper announced that Canadian fighter jets will take part in U.S.-led air strikes against Islamic State militants operating in Iraq for up to six months. Harper told the House of Commons that Canada also planned to send air-to-air refueling aircraft and two surveillance planes to the region. He did not say how many jets would take part in the campaign. Harper said Canada would not deploy ground troops against ISIS.

The Bible says in 1 Thessalonians 5:9-10: “For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ, Who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him.”

Now, it’s time for Prophecy Bootcamp.

Prophecy Bootcamp is where we deal with the basics of prophecy, the Second Coming of Christ, and what will happen in the future according to the Bible. Our aim here is not to make predictions but to help you get prepared by understanding how things will unfold in the end times.

Our topic for today is titled “Drawing Near to Christ’s Return (Part 3)”. This is the last topic series that we will cover from Dr. Tim LaHaye’s book “Understanding Bible Prophecy for Yourself”.

One of the most significant warnings our Lord gave in His teachings about the last days is this: “Take heed that no man deceive you. For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.” Later, Jesus states, “Many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.” And still later, He says, “For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect. Behold, I have told you before.”

Our Lord knew that in the last days, false teachings would run rampant. Daniel, Peter, and Paul also warned of deceivers. The church has always been plagued by false teachers, for the devil is, as Jesus said, the master deceiver. Who can deny that false teachers are arising in unprecedented numbers today? These are just some of the catalysts that have spurred a rapidly growing interest in the subject of prophecy through books, DVDs, downloads, and movies.

My own long-standing dream of writing a prophetic novel to accurately present the Bible truths of future events has gone off the charts. Written with Jerry Jenkins, Left Behind became the number-one selling Christian fiction book in 1996. The subsequent books in the series all went on to become bestsellers and, more importantly, compelled many people to receive Christ as their Savior. I pray that upon completing this book, you will continue to study Bible prophecy for yourself to see what really is coming to pass.

Historically, whenever Christians have studied prophecy, they have become excited about the Lord’s soon return, which has produced three powerful results: (1) A desire for holy living in an unholy age; (2) A new zeal for evangelism and soul-winning; (3) A renewed interest in world missions that produces more praying, giving, and going into all the world to preach the gospel. Our Lord said, “This gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.”

As you continue to study Bible prophecy, I pray you will see these results appear in your own life. And, your diligence in the study of prophecy will not only keep you from being deceived by the false prophets of our day, but it will warm your heart and cause you to “lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near.” You will find yourself waking up each morning saying in your heart, “Perhaps today my Lord will come!”

This concludes our journey through the book, Understanding Bible Prophecy for Yourself, by Tim LaHaye.

In closing, let’s consider what God wants you and me to do in light of His Second Coming.

Jesus Christ said in Luke 19:13 to “Occupy till I come.” In light of that, we are continuing our Bible study series on the books of First & Second Thessalonians which Paul wrote to believers who had concerns about the Second Coming of Jesus Christ, and what they should do as they waited. This section is titled “Handling Your Sex Drive (Part 6)” from the book “Waiting on the Second Coming” by Ray C. Stedman.

After Paul states the positive, he also gives the negative: Don’t give way to “the lust of concupiscence, even as the Gentiles which know not God.” In order to learn control, we must avoid the slavery of lust.

Paul taught the Thessalonian believers not to give in to the sexual pressures of their lustful city. They were to restrain themselves and learn how to handle their bodies rightly and thus reflect the beauty, orderliness, and glory of a life that was whole.

Secondly, he said: ‘no one should wrong his brother or take advantage of him.’ Let me put it plainly: this means no adultery; no haunting the houses of prostitution; no sexual involvement with anyone but your marriage partner; no carrying on affairs with your neighbor’s wife or husband. Such behavior wrongs others. It steals their property and destroys their rights. The tenth commandment says, “Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour’s.” That perhaps is what some of the Thessalonians were doing, and their conduct had not only destroyed the wholeness of their own lives, but had also hurt others. In counseling, pastors hear seemingly endless stories of damaged families, of children’s lives being ruined by the adulterous affairs of their parents. Enormous misery and heartache follow the passions of adultery and sexual affairs.

If the Lord tarries His coming and we live, we will continue looking at this topic in our next broadcast/podcast.

Remember the words of the Lord in Matthew 24:42: “Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come.” Matthew 24:44 says, “Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.”

If you are not ready for the return of Jesus Christ, may I encourage you to get ready today by receiving Him as your Savior. John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” Just believe in your heart that Jesus Christ died for your sins, was buried, and rose from the dead by the power of God for you so that you can live eternally with Him. Pray and ask Him to come into your heart today, and He will. Romans 10:13 says, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

Keep looking up for your redemption draweth nigh. Let us join in the prayer of John the Revelator — “Even so, come, Lord Jesus.” God bless you.
