A protest against the Dallas Cowboys signing openly gay player Michael Sam was canceled due to death threats, according to a spokesperson for the organizer.
Washington, DC lobbyist Jack Burkman was behind the idea to protest outside of AT&T Stadium Sunday afternoon before the game against San Francisco.
Burkman, who is known for rallying to support conservative causes, filed a report with Arlington police. His spokesperson did not say how those threats were made or what specifically was said.
The protest was planned for St. Louis until the Rams cut the defensive end.
Sam is the first openly gay player in the NFL. The Cowboys signed him to the practice squad last week.
