Markings decrying interracial relationships and celebrating a murderous white supremacist marked two benches along the Fort Wayne bridge.

The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Bridge in Fort Wayne, Ind., has been vandalized for the second time in two weeks, the Journal Gazette reports.

According to the news site, the scribbles defacing two benches along the bridge, discovered Sunday, decried interracial relationships, specifically involving black men and white women.

“White women do not need to mix … keep the white race pure,” one message began, according to the Gazette. Another called for the death of interracial couples.

City spokesman Frank Suarez told the Gazette that the vandalism was upsetting. “Fort Wayne residents embrace and take pride in our landmarks,” Suarez said.

Scribbles on another bench memorialized Joseph Paul Franklin and asked people to remember the murderous white supremacist who was executed in late 2013 for the deaths of more than two dozen people. He had declared that his objective was to start a race war in his targeting of interracial couples, the Gazette notes.
