When her young neighbor invited her over to help him understand the Bible, Cathy Wilder couldn’t say no.
“I have to help people with God wherever I can,” the 55-year-old Wilder told her husband, Stanley Carr, when he said she didn’t have to go.
Wilder was stabbed to death that night in July 2010 as she read Scripture to 19-year-old Randy Torres. Police say Torres lured her to his trailer home near Love Field, killed her with two butcher knives and left a note that read “Satan’s son” on her body.
Torres, now 23, was sentenced Friday to life in prison after he pleaded guilty to murder in May. Judge Mark Stoltz levied the punishment and said Torres should never be freed on parole.
