Vincent DiCaro of the National Fatherhood Initiative Gives Good and Bad News On the Fatherhood Front

Father’s Day is celebrated Sunday and also sends a message to absent fathers.

Father’s Day is about more than a new tie and a favorite meal. It’s also a time to show special love and care, and reflect on the importance of the father in the home. Vincent DiCaro is with the National Fatherhood Initiative and tells OneNewsNow there is good and bad news on the fatherhood front.

“In a lot of ways, today’s fathers are more involved with their children’s lives than previous generations of fathers were,” he says. “They seem to be more intentional and more holistically involved in their kid’s lives. But on the other hand, we have record levels of children living in father-absent homes. So while there’s definitely a lot to celebrate this Father’s Day, there’s also kind of a call to really try to resolve this issue of father absence.”

DiCaro says there are now three decades of research on the impact on children raised without a father.
