Rev. J.B. Hardwick, Pastor of the Church Donald Sterling Attended, Speaks to Anderson Cooper

Donald Sterling surfaced at a black church service in L.A. on Sunday for some reason, and explained that he had been invited by the church’s pastor. Well, that very pastor, Reverend J.B. Hardwick, sat down with Anderson Cooper Monday night to explain his invitation to Sterling and why he doesn’t consider the embattled L.A. Clippers owner to be a racist.

Hardwick said he saw Sterling “carrying a load, a border, and my heart just went out to him.” Cooper asked him directly if he thinks Sterling is a racist. Hardwick answered, “After talking to him and looking into his background, I really do not believe he’s a racist.”

Cooper brought up the fact that Sterling made more controversial remarks about black people in a televised interview, not to mention what he said about Magic Johnson. Hardwick, however, insisted that Sterling is just not a person he believes “carries hate continuously in their heart.”
