Snoop Dogg and MC Hammer say Hip-Hop Community Could Help Put an End to Gun Violence in America

Snoop Dogg says the hip hop community could help put a stop to gun violence in the United States.

Speaking Thursday at an event in San Francisco to raise awareness of his No Guns Allowed campaign, the rapper said he believed today’s rap lyrics are less violent then when he entered the business twenty years ago and urged young people to stay away from guns.

“We are the voices that the youth listen to,” Snoop said.

“They respect us, so we are the ones who actually can put a half pause on the gun violence when we speak as one as a whole rap community.

“I feel like the rappers rapping about gun violence has definitely depreciated. It’s went down but we don’t have an effect on the laws.”

Snoop signed up as the celebrity face of the League of Young Voters Education Fund’s No Guns Allowed campaign last year in the aftermath of the Sandy Hook school shooting, in which 20 children and six adults were gunned down in Newtown, Conn.

Thursday’s event was held in the wake of the Isla Vista horror in California last Friday (May 23), when Elliot Rodger, son of “The Hunger Games” assistant director Peter Rodger, killed six and injured 13 in a rampage in Santa Barbara.
