The Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church in Richmond will next week honor its pastor, Rev. Alvin Bernstine, for eight years of service as pastor and 37 years of service in the ministry.
The church at 684 Juliga Woods St. (formerly Erlandson) will hold three services during which Bernstine will be recognized. Dates and times are below.
The Oakland-born reverend has been a pastor for three decades and has a rich history of service to the communities where he has served, according to church officials. While serving as pastor in Nasvhille between 1984 and 1993, he “doubled the ministry budget” and established the first family life center in the city to be operated by a black church. He also helped lead a major restoration project during his tenure at a Brooklyn, NY, church from 1993 to 2006.
“Dr. Bernstine has been given the tremendous honor to serve the Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church, which represents the primary Christian community in which his family was nurtured,” according to the church. “Currently, he is shaping the vision of ministry around the theme, ‘A Ministry That Saves Lives.’”
