
The geniuses at Apple say they’re working on a new software platform which will let you use that iPhone as a remote control for a home automation system. Apple is taking on rivals Google and Samsung. High-Tech Texan Michael Garfield says those companies are simply finding new revenue streams in a growing market.
“If you can add on automated lights and security systems, and be able to control them remotely,” Garfield says, “that’s a big plus that many residences across the country do want.”

“That could turn your iPhone and you iPad into, really a home automation system,” he says, “a remote control for your lights, your security systems and your other household appliances.”
Industry experts say the connected-home system will give apple customers reasons to buy several more devices in its iOS family.
