An 18-year-old boy in Texas stopped his mother, high on marijuana and PCP, from drowning his younger siblings on Thursday, according to The New York Daily News.
Sonya Gardner, 35, allegedly put her two children, ages 6 and 4, in the bathtub in their Dallas home when her older son, Jydesmon, heard their cries for help. In order to get inside the bathroom, the teenager kicked down the door after firing a gunshot in the air.
An affidavit states the 6-year-old told officers that Gardner wanted to “drown us in the bath” after asking for a snack.
After rescuing his younger sisters, Jydesmon dropped them off at a neighbor’s house. He allegedly fled the scene due to an outstanding warrant, the Daily News said. Additionally, he could be charged for having a gun.
Still, Dallas Police Maj. Rob Sherwin said he hopes the courageous teen comes forward as a witness.
“It appears that his actions may have saved the lives of these two children,” Sherwin said during a press conference. “We would like to speak to Mr. Gardner as a witness.”
