A family in Detroit is rallying around a little girl who was struck in a hit-and-run accident Monday on the city’s West Side. Kamari Smith, 8, was getting ice cream with friends when a silver Dodge Charger hit her , then immediately sped off.
Detroit’s WXYZ spoke with some of Smith’s friends, who witnessed the horrific act that unfolded near an ice cream truck. As shown in the broadcast, the girl’s shoes were still laying in the street as investigators continued scanning the area for clues.
WXYZ has more:
“When I came outside, I saw her on the ground,” said 10-year-old Tajah, a friend of Kamari, “And I really didn’t know what to do. I couldn’t do anything but cry because she’s my best friend. And it was just real sad.”
Police are looking for that silver Dodge Charger.
“I heard a loud thump.” said neighbor Ronald Cummings, “And as I came out the door, I just saw that Charger speeding away, and the little girl was laying in the street.”
