A would-be father is accused of stabbing and strangling the 16-year-old who was carrying his twins.
Pearland Police on Tuesday arrested the 17-year-old, who is not being identified because he is being charged as a juvenile, at Pasadena Memorial High School where he had transferred one week after the body of Arrijana Hill was found inside her family’s home in a gated, guarded community.
“Today was definitely helpful in starting more of the healing process and a little more closure for me and my family,” Arrijana’s mother, Opal Hill, said Tuesday.
Hill found Arrijana, who was a sophomore at Dawson High School in this Houston suburb, dead March 21.
“I couldn’t believe it. I was in shock,” Dawson High student Joel Vazquez said.”That Friday, that was that day, I just had her in class as normal.”
DNA evidence led to the 17-year-old’s arrest, authorities say. The test also determined that the suspect was the father of the unborn twins, but officials have not said whether the pregnancy was a motive for the homicide.
The teen, who had attended Dawson High with Arrijana, was 16 at the time of the crime and is being held on capital murder charges, which would make him eligible for the death penalty if convicted. The Brazoria County District Attorney’s Office will determine if he will be tried as an adult.
“He seemed normal,” Justin Williams, a student at Pasadena Memorial High about 15 miles from Pearland, said of the suspect. “He didn’t seem suspicious or anything.”
