An Indiana company that had offered a well-qualified graduate a job suddenly withdrew the job offer when it was discovered the applicant was homeschooled.
NiSource, an energy-distribution company located in Ohio, withdrew its offer of employment after discovering the applicant was homeschooled. Michael Donnelly of the Home School Legal Defense Association says although the private company has the right to do so, he believes it’s discriminatory.
“Here you’ve got a company, a large company, that says they are not going to hire an entire class of persons just because of how they were educated rather than looking at the individual qualifications of each candidate,” he says. “I think it is un-American even if they can get away with it.”
He says this incident is a good example of why HSLDA opposes the Common Core.
